Explain Hannah Montana to me, please?

I'll admit I have only one 3-yo daughter so we're not into this craziness as of yet. Even when she's 5-6-7 I couldn't imagine her being interested in what is basically a teen show. When I was 7-8-9 I was all about The Chipmunks - which was the only concert I saw as a child.

But I'm just not getting this $200+ for floor tickets thing. I saw Billy Joel in the mid 90's for $50 (floor). Is it just that concerts in general are outrageously priced these days and I'm clueless? Is there just something special about Hannah that I'm just not getting? She's no Barbra Striesand - and I couldn't shell out $300 a ticket for her either.

Is this just a kid phenomenon these days the concerts and 5 to 10-yo's idolizing teenagers? I know my mom really sheltered my sister and I as kids, but I just don't remember any of this.

Thanks!

I dont know what all the hype is about either. My DD7 doesnt like her at all. My friends DD is 8 and is nuts about HM. She just spent 400.00 for 2 tickets to see her in concert. :scared1:

HM is only 13...and it is really a show for 7 year olds and up. Her songs are really empowering. Most of them are about either A) following your dreams, or B) having fun with your friends.

Also, even if young kids look up to teenagers, that's not automatically a bad thing. Most teens aren't doing drugs, etc.

Although you are right, the tickets are outrageous. But that's normal these days.

I guess, it just goes back to how I was raised (not allowed to read Sweet Valley High type books until I was actually IN high school - that kind of stuff) For my mom it's wasn't what age they were targeting/approp. for - it was not allowed in the house until my parents felt it was appropriate. I know my parents wouldn't have felt this show was approp. until I hit junior high at the earliest. Which explains why my social maturity/relateablity to peers as a kid was quite low.

While I don't feel the need to shelter my DD as much as my mom did, in general it's still kinda strange to me. Just a new journey for me as a parent to learn - the whole balancing act of allowing her enjoy what other kids are experiencing without it getting overboard.

HM is a tween show that, of course since it is on Disney, is relatively clean. My almost 6 y/o is singing the songs right now. It's fun, light hearted and something besides a cartoon.

Here the tickets are only $56, but that was if you were able to get them through Ticketmaster. They sold out in minutes. All the ticketbrokers I'm sure bought them so now I don't know what they will sell for. The city is having an "investigation" with Ticketmaster questioning how they could sell out so fast.

I've only seen the show a couple of times (DD loves the music but isn't interested in the show) and it's not a teen show IMHO. It's not nearly that mature. :lmao:

My 3yo can actually sing a few of her songs.. and my 2yo yells her name when she comes on and he starts dancing.

We are going to try to concert tickets.. but I am not going over $75 a ticket.. with the ticketmaster scandal going on my chances are slim. I refuse to pay $200 a ticket to see her.

My 6 and alomost 5 yo dd's love her, the songs, and the show. I do agree it really isnt a teen show lol...
It is a clean, innocent, follow your dreams kind of show.
Now she is coming around here soon and tickets go on sale next week...i will look into it, but refuse to overpay. We have tickets for The Little Mermaid on Broadway and didnt mind paying for those tickets, i think theater is very important.....BUT i do think the girls would flip out and have a ton of fun at her concert.

My DD8 loves this show, but I would not pay $50 for a ticket for her to see HM. That is just crazy, not to mention upwards of $200 for a ticket:confused3
We will just continue to watch her on the Disney Channel for free.
I agree its more of a 6 year old and up show.

My dd6 loves HM. It really is geared for the tween and under set. She loves to sing the songs and it inspired her to take guitar lessons. She also dresses modestly - this is a huge deal in our house. We are going to the concert. We were very lucky and got tickets online thru ticketmaster. They were not great seats, but they were seats! It makes me mad that ticket brokers buy the tickets and then inflate them so much.:headache:

My DD4 loves HM. We watch it all the time. We have satellite so we watch the east coast Disney and then she would turn around and watch the same shows again on the other channel if I'd let her. I thought about getting tickets to take her to the concert but I don't think its worth it. She would really enjoy it, but I just think she's too young to really appreciate it. We do have the CD's though and we listen to them in the car all the time.

My DD8 loves Hannah Montana. I think the big draw is similar to High School Musical's style. The actors and actresses are actually teenage or older but they behave as if they are in elementary school. Its where romance is: "I like you, do you like me too", and everyone stays friends forever, no real clique clashes and the mean guy/girl always loses friends in the end unless they learn to be nice... not exactly representative of High School as I remember it but a nice idea for my 8 year old.
