Explain Curves to me

They are opening up a Curves in my neighborhood. I know you guys rave about how much you enjoy it, but could you please explain it to me?

Thanks ...

Curves is a circuit-type exercise program. The one I go to has nine different pieces of equipment, but I think the number can vary from 8 to 12 pieces. The equipment is set up in a large circle in the room, with a cardio pad in between each piece of equipment.

You start out on a cardio pad and do whatever you want for 30 seconds. There is a signal to change stations. You then do 30 seconds on one of the pieces of equipment. After 30 seconds there you change again. You do this until you complete the circuit 3 times, then spend a few minutes stretching. That's it!

They recommend that you go at least three times a week, although you can go more often if you want to.

BTW, the equipment is all hydraulic -- it's not like Nautilus or anything else. So, you are working your muscles when you move in both directions. (I'm sure there's a better way to explain that, but I can't think of one right now, LOL!) Also, the equipment is set up so that you do not have two upper body pieces of equipment in a row, or two lower body pieces of equipment in a row, so that you have time to let your muscles recover before exercising them again.

I hope this made some sense to you. I think all Curves locations let you try it out for a week free, so you can see if it's for you or not. Also, if the location is just opening now, I'm sure they will be running some membership specials!

BTW, I love it! I still do my treadmill for calorie-burning, but this is a great and easy way to tone!

Great info! I just found out last night that one opened up just this past week in my neighbourhood. I think I'm going to try it out this week and see what I think. I've been looking for some motivation :( but cannot seem to find any. Actually I JUST found out about this WISH board this past week, so I'm hoping that maybe the two together will help me at least get started !

I just joined last week and had my first workout this morning. I have one word.... WOW!!! It was a great workout and I left with a big feeling of accomplishment. Wednesday can't get here quick enough ;)

"Change Stations Now" :)

And every month or so, the Curves I go to changes the machines around on us!

My sister loves Curves and keeps telling me to try it out. I have one right next door to my office and another about two miles from my house. I'd love a quick 30 minute workout, but I don't think it would work for me.

Are the machines set up do anyone can just sit down and use it, or do you need to make adjustments?

The machines at the gym I use require that I change the weight limits and adjust the seats. Sometimes it takes me 30 seconds just to get the machine set up to go!!

What if there are more people there than machines?

Do you have to make an appointment every time you go?

Thanks,

Amy

The machines don't require any adjustments at all. A few of the people at my Curves use pillows on some of the machines because they are too short but most people can use them without the pillow.

No appointments are necessary once you are a member. You just show up and work out. The only time I have ever seen every single station used was about 10 minutes after the center opened in the morning. Even if they are all full, it only takes a few minutes before someone is done and then there is a space open.

I love Curves and go 3 times a week, 4 when my son goes to a class on Tuesday mornings. Everyone that works there and all the women that work out there are very friendly and we have a great time. :)
