Expired Disney Gift card from DVC referal

A few years back we got a 200 visa card for refering friends who bought in to DVC.We put the card away andkindo f forgot about it. We now realize it is expired. Will DVC issue us a replacement or are we out the $200?

If it's backed by Visa as the OP said, the states have little control over those since they are issued by a financial institution.

In maine any gift card is non expiring. No matter who issues it, the state does have say over it as any financial institution doing business in the state has to follow state banking laws. Most states do not have a law like that so OP I would check with the card holder and state laws to be sure. I have had to call and "remind" gift card companies of the law here and never had any issue with it once they saw I was in Maine. Now if card was issued in Florida to you in Florida that may make it subject to Florida law not your state.

Limits on expiration dates. The money on your gift card will be good for at least five years from the date the card is purchased. Any money that might be added to the card at a later date must also be good for at least five years.

Or bad news:
Cards that are given as a reward or as part of a promotion. For example, a free $15 gift card given to you by a store if you purchase merchandise or services of $100 or more may have fees or an expiration date of one year rather than five years. Regardless, you must be clearly informed of any expiration dates or fees for these cards.

In maine any gift card is non expiring.

Not according to the link below. It says that Bank Issued Gift Cards are excluded from the law.

I did not want to deal with holding, remembering the gift card so I opted to have the amount applied to my annual dues. I was a little apprehensive since I pay dues annually and it was many months before I would be billed, but it was not a problem.

The problem in your case will be that Disney already bought your gift card and now it is totally in the hands of the gift card vender.
