We are in the process of taking some old panelling off of our kitchen walls which had been nailed and glued on and we can't figure out how to get the glue off?

Also we tore a section behind our stove area that had ceramic tiles on it and yep you guessed it........ how do we get all of that yellow glue from those walls?

Ughhhh we were not expecting this problem at all (and we have a new kitchen floor and cupboards being installed next month):( We wanted to get everything painted and waiting for the installers to come but we're stuck. I've tried searching on the net but haven't found a thing.

Talk about stress! Help!:(

Thanks so much in advance for any help and advice.:)

Get a little can of lacquer thinner Sammi and try that. . . put some on rag and rub it on and see if that won't take it off. . :)

Good luck

We tried three different solvents and a power sander and finally gave up, cut the old sheetrock out and replaced it. It was really much easier than we thought, should have done it to start with.

Yikes!!! Actually that's what we figure we might have to end up doing.:(

We're really set with a deadline too as the whole kitchen is to be redone next month and we actually thought all we'd have to do was paint the ceiling and paint the walls! Ha! Wishful thinking wasn't it?;)

Thanks so much to both of your for trying to help. Guess it's going to be a "dusty" Christmas season around here!:(

Drywall isn't that hard to hang, it sounds easier than trying to get the glue off of the walls.

Good luck with that, sammi:(.Just yell if you need any help.I will be right over.;)

Drywall isn't hard to hang, but when we ran into this problem in our bedroom when we took down wallpaper, we had our painter run a skim coat of plaster/spackle over then entire wall. This was definitely easier than the countless hours I spent trying to get the paste off the wall. Maybe this would work for you?

Also, depending on what your kitchen size is, if you don't mind losing 1/2 inch all around, you can hang new sheetrock over the old stuff so you wouldn't have to rip anything down first.

Good luck!

LOL Oh Kelly can you pop over for dinner on say Saturday? LOL!!!!;) But please dress very "casual" shall I say! LOL!

What a mess!!! But I'm gettting a complete new kitchen and it's going to look awesome! Thanks to Home Depot Ancaster......we love that store!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

RUDisney I think since we're only having to do 2 walls that it would be best to tear down the exsisting drywall and start over.:(

Ughh what a pain but doesn't this always happen when you're renovating......something always come up!;)

Thanks for your suggestions!:)

Don't jinx us. Our new kitchen is being installed next month. I know that it will go smoothly. ;)

So, what are you installing? We're doing a two-toned mission style cabinet. It is quarter sawn oak. The two cabinets on both sides of the window will be stained chestnut and the rest will be hazlenut. Our appliances will all be stainless and the floor will be hardwood. Our next major decision will be to install granite counter tops or zodiac counter tops... and what color.

This is replacing robin's egg blue, formica cabinets with stainless steel pulls and a white formica counter top. Blech! This was supposed to be the first room we were going to remodel, but it's turned into the last one to be completed.

So, please, do tell...

LOL I wouldn't want this to happen to my worst enemy believe me!

We are first getting all new windows in and then the flooring which will be Armstrong in a ceramic tile style with light greens through it. Our cabinets are to be done in Champange Oak with special pots and pans drawers and roll outs in the other cupboards.

We've chosen to do the room in two different shades of greens with a boarder or chair rail around the middle of the walls. Also we're having an above the stove microwave installed.:)

We've been very fortunate to have the exclusive expertise of Home Depot's Design Consultant Amy who has been been a Godsend to us in helping us design our kitchen. She has been even more excited about this whole renovation project than us! She's a fabulous girl who knows her stuff!:)

Good luck with your new kitchen and I pray everything goes just as planned for you!;)Your new kitchen sounds great!:)

Yours sounds great, too! I love green, although the only room we have painted sage green is our bedroom. I think it's very relaxing.

I have our finished walls in my head, but haven't figured out yet how I'm going to paint to get to that design and so far, my DH hasn't been too thrilled with what I've been telling him, even though I know it will be killer when it's done. I guess I'm going to have to enlist the help of my interior designer friend to either convince him, or change my mind. Maybe I'll have to paint it on a piece of scrap sheetrock to show him what it will look like finished.

Here's what I'm thinking... I want either a mustard or burnt orange as the overall color. I think I'd wash that onto the wall first, then sponge sections of copper and brown and a deep cream/tan, then go back over everything with the initial color on a sponge, but instead of just patting it, I'd swoosh sometimes, too, so it is predominant, but everything else shows through. I did something similar in my master bathroom to create a sandstone block effect with grout lines and all. That came out great and some of the contractors we've had in our house think it's actually stone on our walls until they get closer.

The best gadget we're installing in the cabinets is a spice cabinet that will pull out by the stove. I'd love to have the pullouts for pots and pans, but my only other lower cabinetry is housing the trash and recycling, is under the sink, or is a lazy susan.

You are certainly brave having your kitchen gutted before the holidays. My DH suggested this, and I told him to guess again. How would I bake Christmas cookies with no kitchen?

I hope the rest of your job is effortless!

Ha ha not brave but STUPID!!!!!!! Also we will be doing both bathrooms too as soon as we've finished up with the kitchen....nuts aren't we?

The actual flooring and cabinets aren't due until mid Jan but the windows, prep work and painting are to be done by us before all the rest starts up.;)

I told my family that we'll be having Christmas dinner in the weirdest kitchen they've ever been in this year and that I'll be taking a few digital pictures this year and then during Christmas dinner next year I'll be taking more "finished" pictures. I'm sure in the end it'll be worth it BUT for now it's a big pain!!!

Your kitchen colours sound very elegant and your painting techniques will really look so nice too! Tell DH to just take a look at a small piece of sheetrock already done to give him an example of what you intend to do and how nice it'll eventually look in the end.;)

We are trying to have this kitchen totally finished by March as we leave for 3 weeks to Florida and by then we'll really need a holiday! LOL!

LOL... As for cookies??? I think for the first time in 31 years of marriage I might just visit a local bakery!;)
