Experiences with Assisted Listening Devices

Hello,

We were hit by a drunk driver in July resulting in back and neck injuries. They are getting better, but the doctor has told us we can't go on any rollercoaster or similar rides. However, we still plan to go on our honeymoon to WDW in October and enjoy it the best that we can. This means doing all the shows, tours, etc, and basically eating our way around the parks and resorts.

My bride-to-be also substained some nerve damage in her ear causing a loss of hearing and making it difficult for her to understand things in a noisy environment. I just downloaded and read WDWs guest assistance pamplets and they mention something about an Assisted Listening Device.

Has any had any experience using these? Are they really good or do they tend to cut out sometimes? I don't want to recommend that my fiancee use one if they aren't good cause she'll just get frustrated.

Thanks for your help,

To be honest I don't care for ALDs but I have used them and they do not cut out. Another option in MK and EPCOT is the handheld device similar to a PDA. That I enjoy.
I personally prefer interpreters but I do use ASL on a regular basis.
Use the ALDs. They do help. For me only marginally but that is just the nature of my hearing loss.

I just wanted to welcome you and send some pixie dust for a wonderful Honeymoon trip.

I don't know anything about the assisted listening devices except for what I have read. My suggestion would be to try it. If it works for her, you have found something to make your trip more enjoyable. If it doesn't, she doesn't have to use it again.
