Hey everybody I just thought it would be interesting to talk about different things that we want to gain or learn while participating in the program. If you've already participated maybe you could tell us what to look forward to like friendships, life lessons, or anything that comes to mind!

One thing I love about the CP is making new friends. I have met so many wonderful people in FL, and I still see many of them each time I go back. I also love the experience, and trying new things, and going to the parks for free, and meeting the characters.

This seems like a perfect thread for my question!

Which hotels do our discounts work at? And does it have to be family? My mentor will be coming during the time I am staying there and I would like to pay him back for all of the kindness he has shown me.

Is there a limit of people who can use your discount for hotel and do they have a set time to stay there?

Thanks!

The discount works at all Disney resorts. And you don't have to use it for just family.

Everyone has a different experience. My first month and a half I hated it and thought about quitting and going back to school as my semester began. Just be ready for a sometimes difficult transition!
Yea I think thats one of the things I'm afraid of but I hope I'll be ok just because I live away from home and im 22 so i've been trying to just get out on my own for the longest! One of my friends is doing it now and she's really hime sick but she's never been away from home before I think its getting better for her though.

The biggest thing I am seeing CPs learning (at least the smart ones...) is a work ethic. Your job is important or they wouldn't hire you to do it. I also think it's important to remember that you have taken someone else's opportunity, so you need to respect that and do the very best you can do in your job, whether you wind up liking it or not.

Before you arrive, you should know that it is a JOB and it is WORK. It is not meant to be fun playtime and ooh, let's party. It's not like college where you can slack off until the last minute, then whip out a paper and still pass the class or make up some excuse for the professor and have them be a pushover. You will work hard, sometimes long hours and deal with sometimes less than magical situations. The payback is, there is a TREMENDOUS amount to learn if you show up to work, pay attention, and listen. Take advantage of the classes and find ways to maximize your own experience by doing things here that you can't do anywhere else. I know too many people who sleep or party all the time rather than take advantage of the opportunities here and they will be the ones who go home and complain about how awful it was.

I wish i had known that I would miss it every day afterwards  But seriously, I wish I had known how much of a change it was going to be. I had always been close to home, family willing to buy me a bus ticket for whenever I wanted to visit home from college. Then once I went, I was gone for 8 months. At first, I didn't notice it. Then in the middle I became super homesick. I nearly went home. Im so glad I didnt. Once I got over that (took me like a week and a half), I was right back to having fun and buying presents for them.

Homesickness does hit everyone. Some a little, some a lot. For me, it was SOOOOO much better to stay. I grew up a lot. No longer do I plan to go home every weekend, just once every other month. It was an incredible experience, and I can't wait to go back! :goodvibes

Why do you think it was so difficult for you? Is there something I can do to prevent it? I felt just like that my first year at college. Change of location affects me a lot.:confused3

Yeah, the first month of my first CP was hard too. I was very homesick, and missed home a lot. I was able to get over it though (and even ended up extending the CP).

I wish I had known how to save money better.

One of my favorite experiences in the program was volunteering at Give Kids the World. I highly recommend that you volunteer a few days.

And what I wish that I had known: how much Disney completely envelops your life. I've been back home for seven months, and my sentences still usually start with "Back at Disney..." Everyone I meet thinks I'm from Orlando! lol

Okay, I'm about to get reeeeal nerdy right here right now. LOL :rotfl:

I'm an Engineering Physics major, emphasis Mechanical Engineering. I wanted to be a Disney Imagineer when I was like 8 years old when they used to have the Imagineer That! commercials on Disney Channel. Yeah, this was at the same time that I wanted to be an ice-skating astronomer, so I can't really say that that was a legit career goal at that time.

So now I'm actually an engineering major and I've been wayy serious about being an Imagineer or an EnginEAR for about 3 or 4 years. I'm STOKED about the Engineering Professional Development Studies couse they have at WDW (the only reason I chose Disney World instead of Disneyland; I'm from Arizona) and learning more about the careers in engineering at Disney. I have heard that the class takes you behind the scenes of rides, transportation systems, FIREWORK SHOWS, everything they could possible discuss engineering related. So far, I'm hearing excellent reviews on the course.

So that's what I'm excited about. =]

My Experience/What You Can Expect

1. You ARE going to work hard, sometimes extremely long hours
2. Take the time to talk to and interact with some of the guests. They can help make your day a lot better (reminds me of the little "sword fighting boy" I encountered - long story)
3. My job drove me crazy while I was there. Now I appreciate it 2 years later.
4. You are going to meet people from all around the world. Some you will continue to be friends with long after the program is over.
5. At least TRYING to be positive on the job despite how upset you may be on a particular day helps A LOT!
6. Go somewhere other than the parks at least a few times during your offdays... so you dont burn out of the parks
7. Try to have fun! You're gonna miss it when it's over.

I have a question about the discounts, too. Do they apply to the Disney cruises, as well?
