experiences flying US Airways?

well, since CarolA, Safetymom, and DebbieB all now give US Airways a thumbs down, I would say avoid them if you can.

I decided as much as that. With Continental now offering the same rate (320 euro  ), same type of planes and a pretty good schedule, they have the upper hand when I compare just these two.

As to 'cots' or 'bassinets' in the bulkhead row - many FF avoid Economy bulkhead rows due to this reason (I actually usually fly in Business or First on longhaul, so I don't have this issue). So you may have more luck with a bulkhead row than you expect.

Knock on wood, big time, but until now it hasn't been a problem, yet. But then again, I do have a tendency to book months in advance, which gives me a good chance ofcourse.

I haven't flown the MCO-FRA LH route; Flossbolna did get a great 400 Euro fare for next January.
It's mainly the AMS-FRA that is getting the price so high. The prices aren't bad for FRA-MCO, so it's purely the first flight. I could use a cheap airline, but don't really like the hassle (yeps, lazy me!)

LH in general does quite a few upgrades to C, sometimes to the frustration of the frequent flyers (ask me how I feel about them putting three or four babies in the mini C cabin - an upgrade for them, but a downgrade for those who have the few seats in the cabin taken up by babies. And yes, that is a whole other debate!)

I know about LH upgrading pretty much, a familymember of us flies them a lot. I can understand your sentiment about the upgrades. It's not like you don't want another person to get some extra, you just don't like the downside it can have for yourself and I think that's very understandable. I had a nice taste of that myself. I got upgraded for both DTW-MCO and MCO-DTW. First flight; nothing special, lot of business people. Flight back; a lot of upgrades, especially older people. While I could laugh about their -a bit too- load comments during the flight about 'look at the difference with couch, look honey, look, do you see this', it wears off at some moment. Those who've booked first class didn't do that for the entertainment ;) , I can so understand them being annoyed with those who get upgraded and then disturb the whole part of the plane. Maybe not politically correct, but oh well.

My parents have often flown via AMS as they are from the north; they have no complaints about KLM or Martinair, and actually like their Y better than LH Y.

Hmm, interesting. While KLM is plain old basic stuff, I don't really like them. Must have something to do with being spoiled in the past and them getting less and less. And offcourse, most flights are carried out by NWA. They couldn't pay me to fly them again. I've been thinking about Martinair, but know they are rather difficult when it comes to special services. On the other hand; with them I know what to expect and with a -for me- new airline I don't. Oh well, I've got plenty of months to do some research and make my decision. Who knows, by then pigs may fly! ;)

Just wanted to add our experience. We flew USAir from PHL to MCO in Sept and back to PHL in October and we had absolutely no problems. I was concerned w/our luggage from the experiences I had read from other posters but all our luggage was accounted for upon arrival to Disney and home. Everything went very smoothly - everyone was very nice. No issues whatsoever! Only thing I thought was the courtesy shuttle out of gate C16 (at PHL) was bizarre - just not what I expected. I was thinking it was somewhat like MCO inside the building. We went outside & loaded a bus that took us to our Gate. I guess I was expecting something a little bit more but it worked (a little cold in the winter I would think) and we didn't have to go through security again! That was a nightmare at MCO. Talk about rude people - theres a few there.

WOW I'm really surprised.
We always fly USair and have never had a problem. We have flown it in the US as well as to Guatemala and have always had good service and flights arriving on time etc....
We use our frequesnt flier miles and have never had an issue using them either.
Now I'm a little worried that our luck has run out for our next trip.
