Experiences at Sanaa

We're headed to the World with our eight-year-old Aspie and considering different dining experiences. Previously, we've had some issues with table service restaurants. He dislikes noisy restaurants and also dislikes places with strong odors. He hated Biergarten and Chef Mickey -- both were too noisy and he claimed both had a very strong odor.

I think DH and I would love eating at Sanaa -- we're adventurous eaters and both love Indian spices and flavors, but I am worried that the restaurant will have a strong odor as many Indian restaurants do. (I personally find the odor delightful, but I know that if we order Indian take-out at home, we need to be very careful to bag up our garbage and throw it out immediately, because my son would start gagging should he smell it in the morning.)

I am sure that the restaurant could create a simple dish to the tastes of my son, but there's not much they can do about a distinct odor from the cuisine. Does anyone have any feedback on this particular issue or experiences dining at Sanaa with kids with ASD or SPD?

Thanks!

We went there for dinner last year and will be returning next week for this year's trip. I am sensitive to strong smells myself and did not find that Sanaa had any distinct odor whatsoever. They were also so incredibly accommodating there. My DS is just a picky eater and they made him a very tasty chicken breast and potatoes. It was the healthiest meal he had the entire trip! The waiter was so great and entertaining for the kids in a non-obtrusive way! Hope you enjoy!

Maybe sitting near the entrance could help due to the increased air flow.

Although I do not have any ASD, I do have hearing sensitivity issues and find that wearing one ear plug can make a restaurant more bearable without interfering with conversation. I don't know if that would work for your child due to the ASD part of the equation. I also find the noise levels much lower at the beginning or end of the meal period.

I have found that the QS restaurants often have one or two nice meals that compliment the theme of the hotel, but have a low-odor, quiet outside eating area. There is a nice fish meal at the WL and AKL. The AllEars site has an extensive menu list for all the restaurants on property.
