Experienced DVCers - Need help with 1st Ressie

Wouldn't you know...my first reservation had to be complex and messed up (I think)!!! Need your help in what DVC might have done and if I've been a good student of the DISboards!

I purchased 2 contracts with the following points...
120 points - Aug UY. All 2005, 2006 points banked and all 2007 points coming.
270 points - Aug UY. 217 2006 points banked and all of 2007 points coming.

Booked a trip today @ OKW from 7/28 to 8/2. Called back and cancelled the OKW trip and booked a preferred view at Boardwalk. Here's what I believe should have happened and what my account is showing.

OKW cancellation (142 charge & credit - 120 points from 120 2005 points and 22 from 2006 since 7/28 - 7/31 was exactly 120 points and reservation for 8/1 was out of new UY's points.)

July 28th (60 points - should have been taken from the 120 2005 points)
July 29th (30 points - should have been taken from the 120 2005 points)
July 30th (30 points - should have been taken and exhaust the 120 2005 points)
July 31 (since I had to borrow points, 30 points should have been taken from my 2007 points since you can't borrow banked points, right?)
August 1 (30 points - should be taken from the 2006 points that were banked since I'm officially into the next UY)
August 2 - check-out.

With that said, I should have had 120 (2005 banked) +217+120 (2006 banked) +390 (2007 points coming on 8/1) available for this vacation. I should have 307 banked points remaining that need to be used by the end of July 2008 and 360 points that can be banked by 1/31/08 should we choose.

Here's what DVC is showing in the system:

If my assumptions above are correct (as I copied the UY information & points from the DVC website), I should be seeing the following:

Use Year August 2007
Total Annual Allotment of Vacation Points 390
Total Vacation Points Remaining 667
Total Vacation Points Available to Bank 360
Total Vacation Points Available to Borrow 360

You would have used the 120 points banked from 2005 for 7/28 - 7/30 and 7/31 (30 points) should have been borrowed from your 2007 points. 8/1 would have been from the banked 2006 points.

Once you cancelled that reservation, the 05 points should have been retuned as banked points to the current Use Year, the 06 points should have been returned as banked points to the 07 Use Year and the points borrowed from 07 would remain in the current Use Year.

With that said, I should have had 120 (2005 banked) +217+120 (2006 banked) +390 (2007 points coming on 8/1) available for this vacation. I should have 307 banked points remaining that need to be used by the end of July 2008 and 360 points that can be banked by 1/31/08 should we choose.

You should now have 360 points coming on 8/1/07 since 30 points were already borrowed into 2006 and cannot be returned to your 2007 Use Year. So you should have 120 from 05 +217+120 (2006 banked) + 30 (2007 borrowed) and 360 coming on 8/1/07.

I looks like they have used an additional 90 points from 2007 for the BWV reservation - is that the difference needed for the total reservation (the BWV reservation should probably require more points than the OKW?)

I would always suggest reviewing your points with each call to MS to make sure you understand what points were used at that time. If you find any discrepancy, that is the time to challenge what was done. I would have done that when the first reservation was made and again when the next one was made.

Do you have the banking transaction numbers and the cancellation number for the OKW reservation? I would collect all of those details before calling again tomorrow. I also write down the name of the MS rep for each call as a reference.

The numbers on the website may not always be accurate, so I would certainly review that and call to challenge any discrepancy you find.

Wow, Doc. Thanks so much and thanks for taking the time to read. Everything sounded right when I got off of the phone, but it doesn't look right on the website. Hopefully, it's just an issue with the system updating or the site.

As for the OKW vs. BW reservations...142 for OKW versus 180 for BW preferred view.

Leave it up to me to complicate matters with my first reservation!!! I appreciate your response and do have the confirmation numbers. I will post when I find out more tomorrow.

I just reviewed the points needed for these reservations.

Your OKW reservation - 1BR villa from 7/28/07 - 8/2/07 should have used 142 points. 54 for 7/28 and 22 for each of the other nights. The BWV reservation would have used 180 points for a 1BR preferred for the same nights.

The OKW reservation should have used 120 from the 05 banked points and 22 borrowed from your 8/2007 Use Year. When that reservation was cancelled , 120 points should have gone back into the current Use Year (as banked points) and the other 22 would also remain in the current Use Year.

When you made the BWV reservation, the 120 banked 05 points should have been used for the nights of 7/28, 7/29 and 7/30. For 7/31, the 22 (borrowed) points in the current (06) Use Year should have been used along with another 8 borrowed points from 2007 and the remaining 30 points for 8/1 should have been banked points from the 2006 Use Year (usable in 2007).

The net result should have been that only 30 points should have been used from our 2007 Use Year and the remainder should have been points previously banked into 2006 and 2007.

When you call MS, they should be able to correct this by using banked points instead of 2007 points for the last night which would bring you back to the totals I mentioned in the prior post. It just looks like they used 2007 points for that last nite instead of the banked points and that ought to be easily fixed!

Ha! Can you imagine...my poor Buckeyes going down in flames because they couldn't hit a 3-point shot to save their souls. Then, apparently losing way more DVC points than used!!! What could be worse????

I called MS today. I was told that there was an issue with my account and they were in the process of correcting. Basically, Doc, the gentleman I spoke with agreed with our assessment, but said that I should check the website in a couple of days to make sure that things look correct.

A lesson to all of us...check your balances! I could have easily made the reservation and not checked my balance, as what I was verbally told was correct. In this instance, I would have lost 112 points and may have never realized it!

Oh, my friend, you didn't just go there! Ha! Want to hear what's worse??? I live in Columbus, Ohio and 3 people on my team are relo's from Gainesville/Orlando area. You can only imagine the banter going on around here!!!

Must be rough. Being from Colorado there is not much on the sports scene to root for at this time, even with 3 D-1 programs within 50 miles of me, and every major sports franchise out there, including all those other sports.
