Experience Paying With Gift Cards

I did a search and saw that at one time there were issues with paying for your on site hotel room with the Universal Gift Cards that are available but that the new cards were supposed to work. Has anyone had any experience successfully using them? I found lots of questions but no first had experience

We can get fuel perks at our Giant Eagle if we buy gift cards there, so I was hoping to pick up a few cards to pay for our room if it will work

I would love to know this as we'll- I know you can't use them to pay for hotel online- hoping can use them when checking in?

We paid for entire portofino stay with gift cards in November.

They will take them at the hotels for final payment, but they still charged my credit card up front-(technically...a "hold"), but it still took available funds away for a few days.
Just make sure you are prepared for that!

We pay the deposit with a CC then pay the balance a checkin with cash. We never have anything held when paying cash. Also we do not have room charging either.

if you are staying for multiple days, use the gift cards for room payment prior to your checkout day.

then on the day you check out, you can settle that last nights stay at the front desk.
