how expensive would a cab be from Buena Vista Suites (8203 world center dr) to cocoa beach be? (Almost) DMIL is dead set on a day at the beach...none of us drive so we'd have to taxi.

I mapquested this, and this is the results:

Total Est. Time: 1 hour, 11 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 65.58 miles

...and that's just one way.

OUCH! I think this would be expensive!!! I would suggest Discovery Cove, as previous poster said, or a water park or something!

How about MIL go to the beach and you do......oh.....say.....ANYTHING ELSE! Just a thought. :rotfl2: ;) That is going to be one LOOONNNGGG and expensive cab ride! It cost us $7 to go from AK to OKW and that is about a 10-15 minute drive. Can't imagine what it will cost you. Good luck! Maybe the $$$ will change her mind.

We paid $50 just to go from Boardwalk Villas to the airport. A cab would probably be several hundred dollars. Try the transportation board and the sponsor the FLTours. They could give you a direct quote.

I hate to say this, but I have been reading a lot of your questions, JealousTinkerbell, and are you sure you want to do this? It doesn't sound like you will have any fun, and it won't be a vacation for you, that's for sure!

I really am looking forward to going, I just wish that MIL would lighten her grip a little. She's not willing to help but expects the trip to be perfect. She wants a lot but a lot of it is just not possible to do in 7 days. I have a general idea of what we have to do when to get this done right and make the most of our time. and since she is paying for everything (minus spending money) from airfare to food planning is the least i can do. I might be stressed out but I really am enjoying this whole thing! Thanks for caring though!! :goodvibes Plus i cant wait to get out of toronto it is so cold! :cold:

are taxi rates worked like this in orlando? (found this on another Forum on the net) 2.45$ start and then 1.40$ per mile??? is this accurateish??? :confused3 IF so then we are looking at $100USD each way to cocoa beach and she most likely will give in. I just called her to find out, and she seems crushed but I told her there is lots of other stuff to do!

There are a ton of tollbooths b/w Orlando and Cocoa Beach, too. We travel that route each year b/c of relatives in Cocoa Beach area.

I'm going to guess that's about accurate...when I did the mapquest from your original post, there was a sidebar that estimated it would run over $100 to go there one way.

And you're going in April, correct? Tell Linda that the beach would probably be a little chilly for swimming. (I don't know if that's true, but it sounds like a good excuse to me! ;) )

You may want to call the Buena Vista Suites and ask them about this. I think taking a taxi or even a town car service on your own is going to be in the $200 range. It's possible that the hotel may offer a day package with transportation or at the very least, have a preferred vendor that would give you a less expensive rate.

I suggest you stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort and play dumb later. "Well, the name beach was in the title -- I was sure there'd be a beach."

Seriously, it'll take you over an hour just to get to the beach. If she's dead set on it, I'd suggest that you make it the last day of the vacation, and do it as you leave Orlando. Spend six days at Disney, then spend the last night in an oceanfront place. I don't think it's the best plan in the world, but it'll be less intrusive on the rest of your vacation.

what are the taxi rates? so i can tell her...I'm sure it isn't the same as here in canada.

I think you'll find taxi rates in the Orlando area are comparably atrocious to the rates a Toronto taxi will charge.

OK..Lets forget my 1st choice....
paying my own way and leaving her home. :goodvibes

How about.....
Just say...NO !!
MIL bringing a friend...and let them go to the beach?
Tell her its too cold to go to the beach this time of year?
Fly into Daytona, Fla., (and out of Orlando) and take the MIL to the Beach...FIRST...call Daytona taxi's and get a price...and tell/give her the bill ??

This IS your family's 1st trip to Disney...right??
