expensive bags in WDW

Just wondering if anyone has carried any expensive type bags to WDW and how did you protect them? I am speaking more specifically on the Louis Vuitton canvas bags and taking them on things such as Splash Mountain or even Pirates.... I was thinking that I could just carry a drawstring shopping bag inside the bag (such as the Gap bags or American Eagle bags), and place the purse inside the bag if I think it might get wet. Is it a stupid idea to even bring the purse in the first place? Has anyone else done this before? Thank you!

I carry a Coach purse here at home, but I don't usually take it when I travel somewhere. You just never know what could happen especially when you're out at a park... I would be constantly concerned about not getting it dirty or wet or scratched up, which is really not worth it to me when I'm on vacation! It seems to me like it would be a hassle to put it in and out of a plastic bag when you go on water rides, but that's just my opinion. I would rather take a less expensive bag that I wouldn't have to worry about so much so I could just have fun! :teeth:

If you have to worry about it getting wet & dirty.... I wouldn't take it... just get yourself a very cheap canvas bag & leave the good one at home...one less thing to worry about while on vacation ;)

I am going out on a limb here but if you really want the designer look get a knock off and take that one to WDW and leave the good one home. Knock offs are available at flea mkts etc. Often you need to look very closely to see the slight difference. Personally I carry a fanny pack from Totes!! I keep the good stuff home too!

I agree - leave the good stuff at home. Unless you want to bring it for a nice night out. From personal experience, your purse/bag/whatever will get dropped, dragged, stepped on, sat on, wet, dirty, and everything else you can imagine. Buy something cheap for the days at the parks, and use the good stuff when you want to look good!

My purses are Coach leather and they are great here at home. However, they are heavy! With normal, everyday stuff they don't weigh you down too much, but if you're like me your purse becomes a tote bag while traveling. That thing can get tiresome! Leave the "status symbol" bags at home, along with the diamond watch (I got a nice cheap watch at Walmart for $6.46 which was great for travel). You want to be comfortable, not conspicious.

I use Coach bags at home and when I travel any place except for WDW. At WDW I have a fanny pack that I bought for $5 at Walmart....this will be its 3rd trip and I don't have to worry about it getting wet or anything like that. My camera fits in there perfectly and I bought a special wallet that fits in the hidden pocket well and there is even a small pocket for my DD pins that she uses for traders. So I would say don't bother bringing it go for something cheap.

Fanny packs are the way to go at WDW parks!! I wouldn't think of carrying a purse, no matter what the brand or cost.

I am a Kate Spade fan, but I do not carry my purses at Disney. I use a backpack. I also have a smaller Gap nylon backpack that I occassionally use. I wouldn't take my good purses in the parks.

I also use a fanny pack at WDW (and any place else I travel on vacation). All the valuables like money, ID, tickets etc are in there. We also will use a backpack for water, jackets, snacks. It just makes sense to leave the expensive stuff at home.

I saw LOTS of LV's when we were there last month. I had to wipe the drool of my chin!! I love those bags. Anyway...I just take my Sak backpack. It is lightweight and water doesn't hurt it and it is still stylish. I think they run around $60 for the backpack and you can get them at most major department stores or online. I left my more expensive ones at home.

Please leave it at home or in your hotel room. Once I get to our room my coach purse of the season is nice and lonely in either the hotel room safe or hidden in my luggage. I bring out my nice, old, cheap lime green fanny pack and never look back! When we are on our return flight home I almost miss the cheapo fanny pack due to its lightness! All of a sudden I have to turn into an adult again and be responsible! :)

I carried a purse the first trip we went to WDW..never again!! I ended up with a sore shoulder for a week after that. They are a hassle and one more thing to hang onto...

I suggest you leave the good bag home, one less thing to worry about and get yourself a fanny pack or back pack from Walmart. Everything in the parks gets dirty, wet and squished a lot on rides...

Let us know you decide to do...I am curious is all..:)

I think you got the answer from others. Comfort and lack of conspiciious "status" symbols are what is best while touring WDW.

I always wear Vera Bradley bags while at WDW. They are lightweight, washable, easy to pack and I love the look. Granted, they aren't for everyone, but I like being feminine while still being practical.

(I don't go on water rides, however. Not becasue I'm worried about my purse, but I just don't see why anyone over 16 would want to go get sopping wet with their clothes on.)

Once we were at a character breakfast at the Cape May Cafe. As we left we heard this loud clomp clomp clomp behind us in the hallway. We turned around and it was Minnie Mouse, chasing us down. She handed me a note she had written saying that she loves Vera Bradley bags, and had one just like mine!

I love your Minnie story. I am a backpack purse kinda woman and adore my Vera Bradley backpack and my VB backsack. They're great at WDW ( I usually take my oldest in case of mess or damage though) as I can carry around stuff and its never heavy or cumbersome and there's little chance of it getting set down and left behind. I stick it in a locker if I'm tired of schlepping it around.

I'd leave a really expensive leather bag at home though. I don't have LV and don't carry my Coach bag at WDW, too afraid it'll get damaged.

I also use a cheapie fanny pack (or bum bag as my pal from England calls it) from Wal-Mart or Target in "the World". Perfect for park passes, room keys, charge card, a tiny tube of sunscreen, some antiseptic wipes, sunglasses and a digital camera.

I figure the less things I have to worry about on vacation, the better, so I wouldn't personally take a bag that I know I would be worrying about. Plus, there's just something about WDW that makes a normally stylish person run around with big blue sorcerer's hats and pin lanyards on without a second thought.

LOL! That is so true!
