Just thought I'd post here to ask; someone just messaged me on youtube and said that now that Pandora is up and working, Disney are planning on closing Everest for some refurbishment so they can fix the foundation so the yeti can move again?

Any truth in this?

Well the Yeti doesnt move like he is supposed to so that's been the plan since Pandora was announced so I hope it's true

EE has not had a major refurb since it opened, so it will likely at least have a shut-down period for maintenance,
whether the Yeti is repaired or not.

I thought I saw a show (behind the scenes) where they said they would have to take down a huge chunk of the mountain to be able to try & fix the yeti. That was the reason it's stayed broken for so long (cost & length of time it would take). I could be wrong.

They'll do it; it's just kinda dormant right now. I just wasn't sure if the youtuber was right or not because I'd be curious to see how long the ride will be shut for.

And that will be your answer. If the ride is only down for a month or two, then it's probably just regular maintenance, refurbishment. It would take more than that to fix the Yeti.

I've just asked and he's said he's heard on twitter it'll be shut for 6 months! I hope it's not shut when I'm there :|

Nothing beats a Disney rumor that's based on another rumor that's based on someone else's rumor, from somewhere on Twitter.

You heard it here first, folks.

(It's as good as many other "news" stories, these days!)

Quite true but isn't it interesting that other than the infamous Yeti, the ride works remarkably well. It doesn't suffer much downtime does it? I'm sure it needs some sprucing up. Wonder if it's on that list of the 50 for 50 that's floating around?

Many of effects that were part of the rides (EE and so many others) at opening, they just don't use anymore.
The little touches and details that make Disney attractions so spectacular.
Unfortunately, if some EFX prove to be a maintenance hassle... they are abandoned.
THAT right there... makes me so disheartened about the way the management policy has been going in recent years.

As much as I'd hate to loose EE for the length of time the fix would take it would be awesome to get it fixed.
Though I've heard much debate on if it could even BE fixed, even with a complete rework of the mountain.
I reckon anything is possible. I mean, we can fly on the back of a Banshee, surely a Yeti can move, right?

We were lucky enough to have an AP Preview for right when EE opened. Seeing the Animatronic Yeti was AWESOME! It was so huge & it felt like it reached for you! The strobe lights mimic the effect, but having actually seen how it was supposed to work really made it a better attraction. I HOPE they do get it back up & going because it was Really Neat!

At D23 in 2013 Joe Rohde did say that “It’s very complicated to work on, we are working on it… I will fix the Yeti someday, I swear.” and since he was so instrumental in Pandora it makes sense that it could be now that he could look into it

I think it is still a ways off as even with Pandora there aren't a ton of attractions in AK (a lot to do if you are into the trails and stuff, but not a ton of rides).

Personally I think it will happen at some point but probably not until Star Wars Land is done to have the heaviest crowds be at DHS and away from AK
