Question to all those who have done this in the past or similar events. Are there alternative options for AP holders other than getting a free ticket? If not, can we give the ticket to a non-AP family member to use? Or can I combine a couple of tickets towards AP purchase for my son, who will be turning 3 soon?

Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks.

All runners have to get the park ticket even if they are passholders. Last year you couldn't combine them for discounts on tickets and I will presume that will be the case this year.

As for giving them to others, technically it says they are non-transferrable. Realistically they never check so you can give them to others who don't have a ticket and no one will know the difference.
