Expedition Everest @ AK vs. Matterhorn @ DL

Would you say that Expedition Everest @ AK is comparable to the Matterhorn at Disneyland? I like the Matterhorn and I am a bit of a frady cat but I can handle that and space Mountain. I'm just thinking that it may be similar to the Matterhorn. I don't mind the drop but I don't like rides that go upsidedown. So, does it go upsidedown? What is your opinion?

Afraid I don't know the Matterhorn, but EE does not go upside down. There is a bit where it goes backwards which is a bit strange at first, but fun!

Matterhorn has the occasional "in the dark" thing like EE but EE seems so much faster to me. EE doesnt go upside down but it does go backwards for a short stretch. Switches back to going forward then it has a big drop. It's an awesome ride! If this helps, my husband and 10 yo daughter NEVER go on rides, but I talked them into going on EE and they both liked it. All they could say was "wow that was FAST"! The theming as you are waiting in line is the real star of this ride.

I say give it a shot!

I grew up going on the Matterhorn and I love it, but it does not compare at all to EE. EE is a much faster and smoother ride. EE has large drops where the Matterhorn is a continual slight drop. When you go backward on EE, many people feel that they go upside down (though you don't). EE is amazing, so if you're up to it give it a try.

Not at all. EE is a modern rollercoaster. The drops are steeper, it goes backwards for a bit and the special effects are much better. That being said, it was much less intense than I was expecting. The drops aren't as big as it might seem from the outside. No upside down.

I guess they're both moutains! EE is more intense, bigger drops, faster ride. If you can do space mountain and the matterhorn you will probably like EE, but it isn't quite as tame. I don't like upside down either and have a problem with large roller coasters because of motion sickness. I can handle EE okay. For some reason I find the matterhorn more fun, could be nostalgia. I was at Disneyland in the spring and we waited an hour to ride for 45 seconds and I didn't regret it at all.

I loooove both but I would never even consider putting the matterhorn in the same category as EE, a modern day roller coaster. EE has more realistic theming, it's higher, it's faster, it's more intense(though pretty tame in the realm of most modern day coasters) and you go backwards, through the dark, and you go down some very steep drops. I've had people who don't like roller coasters say this ride was a little iffy for them.

They aren't much alike. The Matterhorn is older and bumpier. I know that the height requirement is much less on the Matterhorn.

EE is more of a thrill ride with better theming. It has a section where you go backward and a huge drop.

I love the nostalgia of the Matterhorn, but EE is a much better roller coaster.

I wouldn't compare it to the Matterhorn,except for the Yeti, which has no business in Switzerland. Any hoo, I would compare it more to Big Thunder Mountain on steroids. EE is very similar except it is bigger and much smoother. EE is the only roller coaster that goes backwards and Disney too.

hey...so i am a disneyland vetern (go about once every two weeks) and just got back from my first wdw vaction, which was so fun btw. when comparing ee to matterhorn i must say ee is much, MUCH smoother. matterhorn is kinda old (over 50 yrs now) and is definately jerky, whereas ee is very smooth. ee has a big drop whereas the matterhorn goes around the mountain with no huge drops. ee does go backwards through the dark but unlike other rides that go backwards this is not jerky and is kind of exciting. neither one goes upside down. my personal opinion is i would much prefer ee to matterhorn even though i love the matterhorn, ee is a much smoother coaster though like i said it does have one pretty big drop (which my bf is not so found of).

Thank you all for the responses. I appreciate it. I'm gonna try it. I don't mind drops & I think I can handle the backwards thing. I like wooden rollercoasters & I like BTMR so, I think this will be good.

I love the Matterhorn because it's a Disney original ride, but man it hurts LOL. EE is in another league, super smooth and more intense! If I could choose between the two it would be EE for more thrills and for not hurting my neck/back.

We were fortunate to have APs to WDW when EE opened and rode it tons -- LOVE IT, can't wait to take DD on it.

When we moved to the Pacific rim, we did DL twice and I was excited to ride the Matterhorn. Everyone told me I would be disappointed because I had done EE first but I really loved Matterhorn!

I think that EE is a modern take on the Matterhorn -- it's smoother, taller, faster, curvier but it's still a simliar ride. Yes, EE has a part that goes backward, but it's not like some rollercoasters that go backward the whole way.

I think you would like EE - like a PP said, it's simliar to BTMR but holds the mountain monster premise.

I can't/won't go on Matterhorn any more because it's just too jerky and painful to ride. EE is my absolute favorite ride anywhere. It's smooth, fast, great theming. If you can do Space Mountain (DL's is faster and smoother than WDW), then you should be able to do EE.

That's exactly how I've described EE to my DLR friends who have never been East to WDW -- "Think if someone asked the Imagineers to take the concept of the Matterhorn, but update it with 40 years better technology, effects, theming, etc., and make a really cool "mountain" roller coaster with it."

Although Matterhorn does have a working Yeti ...

I think the only simularity is that I close my eyes when the Yeti is near on both of them! EE really is a great ride! I hope you brave it and give it a try!!
