Expedia no fees......

I see Expedia doesn't charge a fee to change or cancel a hotel ressie.

Say I book a air/hotel trip. Can I cancel the hotel portion and get a refund? The reason I ask is that my last trip to Vegas I wanted to change my dates and they were going to charge me the air only rate for my airfare, meaning I would be paying a big change fee including fare changes. When you book a package, the air is quite a bit lower.

What I am getting at, can I book air/hotel and then cancel the hotel portion, in essence, getting my air for cheaper?

Before I get flamed, I am not planning on doing this, but I was just wondering if I was missing anything in their rules.......

While I don't know the answer for sure, I'd guess no...package deals are generally just that: a package. You get a special deal on one or the other or both BECAUSE you are buying them together.

But honestly...the easiest way to get a good answer is to contact Expedia directly for an answer.

Packages have different rules and restrictions. Often the airfare isn't really discounted in packages either, its the hotel that is discounted, offsetting the airfare.

The reason I brought it up is that Expedia paid Sun Country Airlines 194.20 per ticket including taxes. When I tried to rebook, they tried to charge me a $75 change fee PLUS the difference in fare, which was now up to $239. Acceptable, BUT, if I go to book the air/hotel together it was still offering me the air at 194.20 as part of the package. When I tried to book it alone it was $239. They claim you can cancel the hotel without a fee, even with the package, but I can't imagine they would allow this to happen as a way to just get cheaper airfare.....

This is totally just a curiosity thing more than anything....

Are there cancel fees displayed in the T&C with the vacation package you're looking at?
