Expanding Toy Story Mania?

We're a tough crowd around - granted...

But I think we're yearning for more innovation and creativity to be invested in new rides...not less...

Copies of rather pedestrian rides
Like midway mania might set that bar too low...we already have a fleet of spinners

Yeah, that's the interesting thing about this third TSMM track and the third Soarin theater (if they do happen).

Cost is a driver, of course - much cheaper (and quicker) than a totally new attraction.

But, it looks like this whole NextGen/FP+ initiative may be driving Parks development and ride capacity decisions as in what can we build that gives us the most effective guest manipulation with FP, not what can we build that gives us the biggest guest draw to the Park because it's new and innovative.

That's a pretty big fundamental shift in Parks development. And not that exciting for those of us looking forward to just about anything new anytime soon.

And no, I don't count the Freezing of Maelstrom as something new.

I like to call them 'igers private air force' myself but maybe that's just me

My bet is on both. Expanded track mixed with expanded Picar place, capstone by Star Wars land coinciding with the movies. For the park as a whole.

Unfortunately, it seems like Disney has gotten out of the true innovation game. So the best we can hope for is Creative. The last truly innovative attraction I can think of is Mission Space in 2003. Soarin' is a clone of California's built in 2001, TSMM is just an interactive Dark ride with video screens. Sum of all thrills was built at other parks first minus the ride creation. When Disney got burnt on Mission Space (more intense than they expected) I think they've gotten skiddish about go out on that limb again.

Today Disney tends to go for proven technologies and figures their creativity will bring in a hit. And once they have a hit, copy it all over the world.

I think some of the things in Shanghai will be innovative, the new pirates ride there is supposed to be unlike any other, they are going to have a tron coaster and their tomorrowland is supposed to be quite futuristic. Disney just hasn't been truly innovative in the US. Hopefully that changes with avatar with the floating mountains and luminescent forest etc.

There may not be a lot of them (10 according to RCDB.com) but from what I've heard, Tron as a coaster is supposed to be like Pony Express at Knotts Berry Farm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY2p7j3QdcE . Knotts built Pony Express in 2008. It's a fun coaster but short. If that's true, it actually proves my point. Let other parks build the prototypes of the ride system. Then, Disney comes in and Disneyfies it. By comparison, even now, nobody uses Test Tracks, or Tower of Terror's, or Mission Space's, ride systems except Disney that I know of.
