Exit Row?

I looked up Seatguru and called Jetblue and it doesn't say the exit row seats can't have the armrests go up or down. DId you read it somewhere or experience it firsthand?

To me, there are two issues with sitting in an exit row, besides the obvious issue of agreeing to help people exit the plane in an emergency.

One is that your tray table is not in front of you but stored in the arm rest. Because of this, it comes out at a different angle than your standard airplaine tray table. I travel with my laptop and I find this an issue as I like the screen a certain distance from me. And second, because the tray table is stored in the arm rest, the arm rests do not go up or down. As a family of 3, we like for all the arm rests to be up so we are able to stretch out a bit more, esp if our daughter falls asleep.

Jetblue has ample leg room in their planes, imo. I don't think one has to get the exit row on their aircraft to accomplish not being squished.

Good Luck

You really have to see the situation for the particular plane and airline because everything different. In general, it's much better to be in an exit row. It's also better cause the row in front of you can't put their seats down much, if at all.

Not all exit rows in all aircraft have the tray tables in the armrests. I happen to prefer the armrest variety if I am not traveling with family, it keeps the guy or gal in the next seat from hip-thigh spilling into my seat. If there are two exit rows together, the second exit row is always preferable, as those seats will recline, whereas the first exit row has limited or no recline.

I have to fly on MD-80s every week. I try and snag a First Class seat, but if it's full I will pick 21A every time. The gate agents are usually good about blocking off an exit row seat for me, as those seats are only available to reserve by elite frequent flyers prior to gate check-in. There's usually one free.

Brad - other than the baggage carousel, isn't your 'getting there first' strategy based on the premise that your aircraft is the only one arriving at that time?

I like to get exit row in a USAir A319 or A320. There's a ton of leg room and there is a regular tray table that has an extension to pull it closer to you. These seats can be reserved in advance by their preferred flyers so they can be hard to get if you are not preferred.
