Does any one know if the food trays are always stored in the armrest in the exit rows. Trying to figure out if the armrests will push up in an exit row? It isn't worth it to me to get to the airport early enough to get an exit row for the legroom, if we end up being squished the other way!!

Thanks.

What airline are you flying? It is my understanding the trays always come out of the armrest in the Emer. Exit row...this is a safety procaution so if there is an emergency there isn't a chance the trays would come down from the seats in front, blocking the exit row. Now, as far as the armrest pushing up...I am not sure.

Sometimes the trays are on extensions from the row in front and sometimes they come out of the armrest. Most exit row seats have arms that go up. The seats also recline. The row in front of the exit row does not recline.

On ATA's 757-300s, most (if not all) of the exit rows have the seats in the arm rest. However, in the two seater row 10, they also have the kind that are on the seat in front. I am most familiar with those and the bulkhead exits in rows 11 and 30-something (I think it's 34) because those are the ones we try to get. The arm rest will not go up on any of those. There are exit rows in the middle of the plane, but I can't remember the tray table configuration on those.

It depends on the airline and then, even the fleet type, whether or not the tray tables come from the seat in front or from the arm rest at the emergency exits.

It's not so much a safety concern as is how far the seats are spaced. The tray tables in the back of the seat can only reach out so far. One of the requirements of seat certification is that the tray table must not come loose from the seat back in a "survivable crash" and block evacuation.

Any arm that has a tray table inside of it will NOT fold up.
