 I am an excerise freak and don't go a day without the gym at home, so going early in the am to the fitness room will be a priority! Can any one sum up the availability of machines during certain hours? Is there anything about the fitness room I should be aware of?

Do they provide towels and is there H20 in the room?
Does anyone feel "sea weirdness" while exercising on a rocking ship? :confused3

Thanks for your input, DIS NURSE from Oregon

Good questions! I'd like to know too!

I am wanting to know this also. We have cruised twice before and are going again in April and have used the Rainforest Room on both cruises. We did not use the fitness center, though we will this time as we have both gotten into exercising. I will tell you that the "locker room" is very nice, with Steiner products, such as facial cleanser, toner, towels, etc. Every morning after the Rainforest, I enjoyed a shower with the big rain showerhead and all of the Steiner shampoo and bath gel amenities. My husband did the same in the men's locker room. We got so spoiled showering in the big shower that we hated getting into the little one in our room! I highly recommend the Rainforest to you, you will love it!

DH and I went to the workout room all but one day on our cruises. I would hit the area early on sea days to avoid crowds, but port days tend to be okay. They also offer fitness classes (step, cardio kickbox), and although they are beginning level, you can increase the intensity level on your own and make it yours. I actually enjoyed doing the classes as I was lacking some motivation.... ;)

If I remember correctly there is a fountain and/or a water jug there with towels. The fitness room is small, the equipment is OK (free weights, a few benches and cybex machines), and there are TVs, so bring your head phones if you plan on using a cardio machine (treadmills, bikes and I think either eliptacle or steppers). If you want to do classes, look at the navigator on the first day and sign up for classes when/if you make spa ressies. The cardio studio is SMALL, so class size is very limited.

As far as the "motion" with working out, it is a bit odd...but I survived a step class suffering from tunnel vision and blurred vision on a sea day....(needless to say, I don't recommend the patch anymore), but it is nothing you can't tolerate!

Two Foxes...Is the step class a daily thing at the same time?

Pennyb...Do you have to pay to use the shower facilities in the Rainforest if that is all you want to use in there? And how small are the showers in the rooms? Me and my DH share ours here to save time and water. Could we both fit in at the same time in our room shower?

Yes, you have to pay to use the Rainforest showers. You can use the locker room showers for free.
I once did yoga while the ship was moving...talk about vertigo!

No, they offer a different class each day. So one day may be a step, the next a cardio kick box, the next a pilates.....

Check out some navigators for a sampling of what they have. A good site is www.dcltribute.com. If you go to the lower right corner of that home page, there is also a good site at the "Platinum" link there. It has photos of the workout room and such.

Pppiglet,
The Shower In The Room We Stayed In ( Cat 10) Was Narrow, So I Don't Think Two Adults Could Fit. It Is A Small Tub/shower Unit And I Remember It Being Pretty Small. You Do Have To Pay For The Rainforest Showers (those Are Coed) In The Rainforest Room, But The One I Was Referring To In The Locker Room Is Free. It Is A Private Shower Where You Can Really Shower. The Rainforest Showers Are Not Private And You Wear Your Swimsuit.

I'll echo the fact that the fitness room isn't at all crowded on port days, but tends to be a little crowded in the morning on sea days. Earlier is definitely better. There is a locker room, shower and sauna that you can use at no charge. The showers in the rainforest do require that you pay for rainforest use, and they are a real disappointment. The rainforest itself is nice, but the showers are not.

In the locker rooms, they supply towels, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel as well as hair dryers. Lockers are available on a "space available" basis, as are headphones. You leave your KTTW at the desk to get a locker key or headphones.

Some of the exercise classes get cancelled due to lack of attendance--bummer.

The fitness center supplies water in cups all day. There are towels and spray to wipe down the equipment. The area is small, but generally adequate.

early this month.

My usual work-out time is 6AM, and the Vista fitness center didn't open until 7AM. I got there a couple minutes before 7, and was able to get right on my cardio equipment. There are only about six treadmills, 4 ellipticals, and (I think) two bikes, and a stairstepper? Anyway, the cardio stuff filled up quickly, by 7:15. The weight area is really cramped but I had no problems since people were mostly using the cardio stuff.

I never tried any other times so I'm not sure how crowded (or not) the fitness room is later in the day.

The classes did get canceled on our sailing.

One very cool thing is to be on a treadmill and look down thru the glass into the ship's bridge... watching all the activity down there was interesting. And looking straight ahead, you will get an amazing view of the ocean as the ship sails!

Adding that you can request (free) headphones from the Vista front desk to use with the TVs/radio on the cardio equipment. :flower:
