We are trying to decide on which excursion to book in each of the 3 Western stops. It is my wife, 2 DS (5 & 2) and myself. We have narrowed it down to these.

Key West--
-Schooner regular or sunset
-Conch tour with or without museum
-glassbottom boat.

Which one?

Cayman--
-Beach Break
-Rum Point Beach
-Island tour

Which one?

Cozumel-
-any suggestions appreciated

Thanks for the help!

Excursions are over rated I think. Enjoy Key West on your own, take in the town and just mosy about.

We did Stingray city in Grand Cayman, it was a good experience but not worth the money.

Cozumel, take a cab to Paradise Beach--FANTASTIC. It's a wonderful place. They take great care of you, nice beach, great service. Iceberg in the water to climb and slide off of. Not crowded, clean bathrooms and changing rooms. Snorkel gear is free with a 10.00 deposit per set. Kiyaks are free to use and a water trampoline. I would pick this place over any excursion anyday.

I concur about Key West. It's easy enough to do on your own. If you decide to, you can do the train tour on your own there. It's only a short walk from the ship. The glassbottom boat would be neat to see the fish with the young ones, though. And you're in Key West long enough to do the boat and have time on your own on the Island. Nothing says you can't do more than one thing.

If you want to do a beach in Grand Cayman, then do an excursion. I haven't been on either of those beach excursions, so I can't really recommend one. On your own, you have to take a cab to all beaches and most of the better ones (with bathrooms available and other ammenities) have entrance fees as well. There are always those exceptions. Also, with the tenders in Grand Cayman, I think it's much easier and less hassle to do the excursion. If you do it on your own, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship. One time it took me an hour to get back from the near side of 7-mile beach which only only took about 15 minutes to get to, so keep that in mind. You're at the mercy of the cab drivers.

In Cozumel, I really enjoyed the dolphins. You have to understand that you don't actually "swim" with them, but it would be nice for your DSs because mommy and daddy can hold them or they can float freely in their lifejackets and they can still get to touch the dolphins and watch them swim by up close. If you want a beach in Coz, don't do Chankanaab. I believe that it's simply an awful beach. Paradise Beach sounds great. Although I've never been, I've heard wonderful things about it from parents.

This is all my personal opinion from multiple experiences at these ports.

In Cozumel we walked to the mini-golf. We had alot of fun. After that we took a taxi to Mr. Sanchos. Snorkeling was alright - but the water was great. Food was good. Beach was free but extras cost. (check our site with pictures and the name of the mini-golf place.)

Grand Cayman you have to snorkel. We went on Captain Marvin's. They are wonderful.

Didn't like Key West because we didn't plan. :( This February we plan on taking the tour to the southernmost point. It really is a pretty stop but you have to plan something to enjoy it. Walk the wharf at dusk to see the performers. That was interesting and fun.

Yep, I agree..you can do all three islands on your own..easily.

Key West...be prepared..have your plan..there are some great things to see. You can take the trolley/little train tour on your own..at your convenience. You can also..rent one of the space ship looking golf carts and make your way around..they have 4 seaters. The people that rent them are great...we booked for 4 hours...we got done in two..decided to turn cart in early..they just changed the contract so we only pay for two hours...we didn't even have to ask them to do it..they were just concerned when we pulled in that something was wrong because we were back early. Very nice people. We rented it right on the corner near the Pier House resort at 1 duval street..short walk from the dock. We drove to hemingway house, southern most point, Bo's fish market..if you are eating in key west..stop there..best fresh fish sandwich ever. And you can also get fresh conch fritters, if you haven't tried them, it is a must while in key west. After we turned the cart in, we walked to some of the close places, did some shopping and then back to the ship to watch the sunset from our balcony..it was excellent.

In Grand Cayman...we wanted to see the major attractions before having lunch and doing a bit of shopping..so when we got off the boat..we looked for a taxi..they offer tours for about $15-$20 per person..can't remember exact amount...takes two hours..they stop and let you out at hell, the turtle farm, will drop you at a beach on the way back if you want..a nice tour of the towns major attractions and such..well worth it. Stopped at Rackhams (ocean side a bit up from the dock) to have a stingray beer. The food looked great, but we had already chosen a lunch place. We will definately eat here next time. This past time we ate at Big Bamboo. Great fresh grilled sea food. Both places had wonderful people to enjoy and the decks overlooked the ocean at both places..excellent. Very relaxing and not to busy. Rackhams also has a great souvenier shop..we did our best shopping there.

In Cozumel..again..all on our own as it was our first time to this island. We had ordered our map and had our plan all ready to go.
On the suggestion from cruisers before us..we debarked the ship and grabbed a cab to Mr. Sancho's beach area. It was wonderful, the food, the service all excellent. The beach is beautiful, water clear. Hubby said he could have spent days there. We were in relax mode..but, there was plenty to do if we wanted to do it. We spent 3/4 hours there then grabbed a taxi back to the dock/shopping area. We had the taxi drop us at the far end (not really all that far) and we walked our way back to the dock. Don't forget your coupons for your free diamond earrings and tanzanite earrings from the Forum shops if that is still being offered when you get there...small stones, but, fun to get none the less. Great humidor upstairs if you like cigars, great jewlery store downstairs. We also walked about two blocks more..away from the dock, on the recommendation of the people inside..to the grocery store to purchase our tequila and vanilla.
We took all our packages back to the ship, freshened up and came back out for dinner at Carlos and Charlies..great food and service..right across from the dock, front open to the outside.

Enjoy!

Yes, I agree. Key West is best done under your own steam. Plenty of time to see most of what it has to offer.

Grand Cayman is disappointing if you just hang around the harbour area. Do your homework, and see a bit more of the place.

Cozumel: unfortunately, had to spend the morning at the dentist, so missed out on any trips. The shops are good, but be prepared to haggle with them. As Brits, we arent used to this - and got "ripped off" several times!!! Hey ho, we will know better next year!Nat:Pinkbounc
