Are there any excursions left by the time first time cruisers can book? If so, what do you recommend for CC and Nassau as must do?

Yes, there will be excursions available. Maybe not your first choice, but there will be something.

Generally, on Castaway Cay, we don't book anything. Just go ashore and enjoy the beach. Maybe get snorkel equipment (can do that once on the island). Nassau, we took the Junkanoo Tour. Basically, just a quick tour around the area with a stop at the Junkanoo museum, and the fort on the top of the hill (forgot the name). Next time in Nassau, we'll probably stay onboard.

We were able to book without problems but we did it early on our first day.

LOVE LOVE LOVE - Blue Lagoon!!! It's a beautiful ride over to there. We did the dolphin interaction and it was so much fun. I have a friend that did the sea lion interaction and loved it too. There is a beach area that you can go to. We were one of the first groups and spent about an hour afterwards on the beach. Then we headed back to the ship and took quick showers and did a little shopping in Nassau. One word of advice, is take extra money or credit card to get a DVD if you interact with the dolphins or sea lions or even swim with the dolphins. I only took a little money and could only afford to get a couple pictures. I really regret spending the money to do it and not having a dvd of us doing it. I thought I could record it but I was to busy having so much fun I forgot to do it. I can't remember how much it cost for the dvd but you can contact them from their website and ask how much. Another thing we did before going on our cruise is watched TONS of Blue Lagoon youtube videos, and knew we had to do this.

We also did the Junkanoo on Nassau. It was a good way to safely see some of the island and my DD8 and I are both history buffs. She also got picked to play the main drum at the Junkanoo museum so she was very happy. Kids getting to make a lot of noise are always happy! It was also a short excursion that let us explore Nassau and allowed us plenty of time back on the ship afterward while other people were still out on longer excursions (and it wasn't expensive!)

At CC we rented snorkel equipment, bikes, and tubes. Just a warning that it is quite a swim to the actual snorkel area. We didn't know that and my daughter, who is a great swimmer, was quite exhausted. Riding bikes for a break was fun. Not sure renting tubes was essential. By the time we decided to use ours, many people had already left the beach and there were tons of them just laying around that you could use.

We were first time cruisers and had no problem booking these things. Some other excursions would probably be more difficult to get.

Nassau is easy to get around by yourself. Just hire a taxi for less than an excursion. And castaway cay is a great day with nothing to do. Although I did love feeding and petting the sting rays. They are very well taken care of. We go off firSt thing. Get chairs along the first line of chairs on the family beach with umbrellas. Hang out. Snorkel a bit. Ride the slides . Have lunch and go back to the ship.

I would be there will be excursions that you desire since a lot of people like to "do their own thing" on Castaway Cay and stay on the ship in Nassau.

I have done the stingray excursion once on CC (it was cold, January, what WAS I thinking?) and parasailing twice. That said, doing nothing at CC is my personal favorite activity :)

We've been to the Blue Lagoon twice for the sea lion interaction (once would have been fine for me, but DD really wanted to return). Lots of people love Blue Lagoon...I lived for a few years in the Caribbean so I think it's nice but I'm not willing to deal with Nassau again to get there (just my preference). Also I always feel so sorry for the dolphins (again, my thing, not judging) that it sort of brings me down. Again, probably remembering sailing in the Caribbean with them frolicking next to the boat...one of my favorite memories :)

A double dip sounds like so much fun...enjoy!

Just how far do you have to swim in order to snorkel??? Grandma(me) has to go with the youngest granddaughter, I promised her...really don't want the paramedic to have to be called lol

. Oops my question ended up in quote. Basically I want to know how far you have to swim in order to snorkel

My DS and I did Blue Lagoon about a year ago and had a lot of fun. We just did the beach excursion which was very relaxing! The boat ride over is really fun too. We booked that cruise really last minute and were still able to book the excursion. Just a warning, if you do go to Blue Lagoon, the food is pretty bad! You may want to bring some bagged snacks or granola bars along. The excursion isn't long, so DS and I just ended up having burgers and ice cream on the ship when we got back.

So you don't have to swim to get to the spot where you snorkel? You can wade through the water to get to it? And then stand to actually snorkel? Grandma here doesn't want any surprises, like a swimming marathon.

Oh what we'll do for our grandchildren.
You sound like a wonderful grandmother!!! You're going to have a fabulous trip!

I've never been on DCL before..but I know Nassau/Paradise Island well. As much as I HATE to recommend this (due to my own issues with Atlantis day passes).. if you have never been to Atlantis this is a great opportunity. Or do Blue Lagoon.

I think you had said your grandkids are around 9&11? (Sorry if I got the ages wrong). But I think they would love either of those.
