excited, not sure now about Poly

Welcome to the DIS, Cindereli!!:sunny:

The whole tropical feel of the resort from the moment you get there is awesome. I found the rooms to be just fine. Try not to worry about how the resort will be. You will have the time of your life. Instead read about all the great stuff re the resort. I tell you your going to love it.

OK Guys, how bout the pillows, Poly has the best pillows bar none. And plenty of them.

I need lots of pillows!!!!

I would like to know why you are all naively assuming drtaylors need for towel animals is for her kids?!? It seems obvious to me that she secretly craves them for herself - I heard she plays "house" with them while DH and the kids are on Splash Mountain!! JUST KIDDING!!!!

We are going to Poly LVC in February and I can't wait. I think you will have an awesome time. I think no matter which property you stay at, Disney is ALWAYS a step above any other resort/destination. When is the last time you visited the Motel-8 discussion board to discuss the merits of the towel animals left by their housekeeping staff?!?

  :rotfl: :rotfl: :jumping1:

Dear Tikiman
You forgot to mention that a brand new pool was constructed only a couple of years back. The GCH has been remolded at least three times since the resort opened.

Most of my best resort memories from WDW are at the Poly. The best -- this past NYE: As my DS (age 8) and my DH slept peacefully through the midnight fireworks (not real night owls, my boys), I sat on the balcony and watched without waking them. Then I crawled into my cozy bed and knew that the Poly was one of the best resorts in the world.

all right rayjay, now there is a plus I've been thinking about!! lol, not that I'm obsessing or anything, I thought I'd call the poly a few days before we left and find out if I can live without bringing my very own pillow!! (I love my feather pillow - but I know there is a thread for germaphobia, and I imagine feather pillows cant be washed...)

Another vote for the Poly - we stayed Poly Conc. in May and LOVED everything about it. Our last trip we stayed GF, and we choose the Poly hands down. It is a wonderful resort - you will LOVE it.

I know someone else already mentioned this but we also packed small "gifts" to leave for the kids in the room to add a little Disney Magic. Right now, if you visit the mousesavers site, there is a link to the Disney store site and there are some great sales. I just ordered Pooh and Eyeore bean bag stuffed animals complete with the hula skirts for about $4 apiece to surprise the kids on our next visit for DD birthday.

My only warning about the POLY - once you try it, you'll probably be hooked. ::yes:: Have Fun!!!!!!:wave2:

When we were at the Poly in May we had towel animals. Interestingly, when we stayed there in concierge level in 2003 we didn' t see any animals. I think it depends on your mousekeeping staff.

If you like towel animals, you MUST try a disney cruise. They had great ones in our room every day including a hanging chicken. LOL

Enjoy your trip!

We stayed at the Poly last year and LOVED it. This year we decided to save some money and stay at POFQ...although we liked POFQ, when we went over to Poly to eat, we were reminded how much we Loved it! We loved the monorail ease and when we were there we always used the buses...we drove from POFQ. Anyway, I'm sure you'll love it!

Our only advantages for POFQ were that is cost about 1/2 as much and we liked the convenience of the food court...but the general beauty of the resort definately goes to the Poly! HAVE fun!

I also wanted to mention how much we enjoyed the fireworks and the electric parade and the sandy beach!

We didn't get towel animals the first night, but if you call, they bring them the next day.

We also enjoyed people watching in the Ceremonial House! My DH and I would have a drink and the kids would play with their new "stuff"...wow...now I really miss it!

We stayed at the Poly (non-concierge) in June, and we got towel animals every day. One day, we even got an entire towel polynesian man (at least that's what I think it was, it had a towel wrapped around a pillow for a body, arms, legs, and a head with a lei wrapped around it). Very, very cool.

That being said, although I would stay there again, I don't know if it will be my fav disney resort. For one, the pool was always packed. The pool hopping thing started to upset me, when no one I talked to at the pool was actually staying at the poly. One family who was getting chummy with the bartender (who was also the worst, more unpersonable bartender I ever met in my life) explained how they enjoyed pool hopping, and said goodbye to him as they boarded the ferry back, and "see you again in a couple days". Every time I looked at the slide pool at the GF, it was empty. Also, the idea of getting a hammock and watching wishes sounds nice, but make sure you get there 1/2 hour before hand, because every time we tried they were all taken. The pool, beach, and even the GCH seemed always packed. I know the hotel draws a lot of people with Ohana's and the Luau, I guess I wanted a little more seclusion for the money I spent. I expect crowds at the parks, but wanted relaxation at the resort, and didn't get it.

On the plus side, the convenience of the monorail is great (although bus transportation at the Poly leaves alot to be desired, one family waited over an hour for a bus to Typhoon Lagoon), O'Hana's was great (Luau wasn't), but the best part of our stay there was the towel animals!!

Yeah, Poly used to be our fave...Been there 4 times including our honeymoon. Every time we go there now to eat at 'Ohana or Kona we look around the resort and just can't believe it. People EVERYWHERE, no seats or room at the pool, Captain Crooks looks like a dump, trash and food all over the floor....Just not the Poly we remember from our previous stays there. It looks like some kind of third world country.

I agree on Captain Cook's. You actually had to look where you were walking all the time so you didn't slip on something on the floor! I had to wipe off the hamburger trimmings (onions etc) off my coffee creamer too!

I read all the good and bad about the Poly, and agree that everyone has their own likes/dislikes, and just feel the Poly isn't "us". I'm thinking of trying WL next year though. The bus we took back from Hoop dee doo stopped there, and it looked so peaceful.

We would go to the MK some days, come home, shower, order room service (for a special treat) and eat dinner & watch the fireworks from our room (now that's vacation). You will have the best time!!! My family of 5 had plenty of room and the balcony by the lagoon was the best, the kids loved watching the Ferry and boats go by, not to mention the Water Pageant at night. Don't worry, you'll be so glad you stayed there!

Visiting the Polynesian and not staying there has become an attraction for many. We won't stay there anymore due to this problem. I know at other times of the year it's ok, but during the summer it's just out of control. You can't find a place to park, enjoy the pool or as you said find a hammock to watch the fireworks.

As more and more guidebooks and people on forums like this one share how wonderful the view is from the beach at the Polynesian it's only going to get worse.
