Excited for our June surprise trip!

We are back...did not eat at Kona....Indian type food and I know the kids wouldn't eat it. Had a fabulous time, they were completely surprised, although a tad cranky at first since we woke then at 4 in the morning...:thumbsup2

Thanks for the report back...Did they have other food options for the kids?

Thanks, James!

Stacy, you are so close to your trip now! This time next week I'll be dying to yell it out. We have a 14-15 hour trip split over 2 days, and we probably won't tell them until the next day.

I did the map for the big reveal...I'll see if I can get it to post.

Just so you don't count Kona out, we have eaten there many of times and we would not classify the food as Indian. Sanaa at AKL yes, but not Kona. Kona has many choices for food options that are very varied. They have everything from seafood to noodles to chicken. It is all asian inspired, but very good. My kids find food there too. They have hot dogs, ravioli, fish, etc. Just didn't want you to miss out if that is what you wanted to try.

Ok, thanks for the info! I know my husband will be happy to have a sit down meal with real food, as opposed to over the counter food.

Let's see if I can get this picture of the map to post...we will stop at the first rest stop in Florida and claim our navigation systems are taking us different ways and we need to look at a map. (had to fine tune this a little, since there will be a very observant 17 year old in my BIL's car) The Mickey head looks more like Princess Leia, lol. I was going for a Mickey ears kinda look.

You are correct....I had the wrong restaurant in my mind!!!! Sorry.

Last day before we leave for our trip. It's been so long, can't believe it's time to leave! The kids still don't have a clue, but no thanks to adults who knew it was a secret and still open their mouths. :headache: We've been good at covering it up. We decided to leave around 3 am and do the majority of the driving tomorrow...should get to the hotel around 3 pm and have down time for my son and nephew to swim at the hotel. Then a 3.5 hour trip the next day. They won't find out we're going to Disney until about a half hour before we get there.

So much fun!!!!! I hope you take pictures of surprised faces.

I was hoping to get video, but was so nervous right before they found out, I actually turned my video camera OFF!!! :rotfl: They were so surprised and I was surprised that the 17 year old was the most excited about the trip. We were only about 45 minutes away when we stopped at an IHOP for lunch and told them. The Caribe Royale was really nice, and we were in the pool most of the day after we checked in. I took over 1000 pictures while we were there and it still didn't feel like enough.

Sorry to bring up own post from almost 2 years ago.

Just wanted to say how our surprise went over, as I know people look for ideas. We drove forever the first day. BIL/SIL took my 2 nieces, and we had my nephew with us. They drove straight to Florida and stayed with SIL's brother overnight. We stopped about 2.5 hours from Disney and stayed overnight. The next morning, we met up with BIL/SIL/nieces for an early lunch at IHOP. We had been telling the kids we were just going to drive around Florida and find some free things to do. Like go to a pillow factory and lots of educational things.

So, before we went in, I said "You guys get to pick which direction we go today. First one to find route 4 gets $5" and put the map on the ground. COMPLETE SILENCE. They were so shocked they didn't say a word. And the 17 year old was THE MOST EXCITED when it finally hit them. I had bought them all their own WDW backpacks and collected a bunch of small things to take on the trip (FP holders, mickey earbuds, mickey watches all found on ebay dirt cheap).

The kids had a great time. I am going to try to post pictures. Like I said, I thought I was recording their reaction, but I turned my video camera off by mistake.

I'm back on the boards because we are planning yet another surprise trip for our son and for my nephew (who went 2 years ago). We are hopefully flying this time, and am thinking of ways to surprise them again. They will miss the last 3 days of school to go too.

I was surprised this popped up. Glad the trip went so well and look forward to reading about your next trip.
