Exchanging Old Park Hoppers for MYW Tix?

I'm in the process of adding two days to my stay next week... I already have 4 day Park Hopper Passes with one plus option each. Where do I go about upgrading to MYW tix when I get down to WDW? Can they do it at the hotel desk (I'm staying at POR)? Does anyone have any idea how they decide how much $ to credit you for towards the new tix? My goal is to exchange them for 6 day MYW with the park hopping option. Any and all previous experience would help me more than you know! :scratchin

Thanks in advance for granting me your knowledge!! :teeth: :worship:

Every time we have upgraded they have credited us the full amount paid minus any days used, provided we got the tickets from Disney or one of their approved outlets. Tickets that we bought from the Nikki Bird weren't upgradable, but the CM let my BIL use the cash value of a Marriot timeshare spiel promo ticket towards his AP. Just check carefully...make sure it isn't cheaper to use the PH tix as is and just buy a 2 day base ticket without hopping or expiry. Then use the 2 day tix when you know you'll be staying put (Epcot) and the PH tix on the days you want to change parks (like AK during the day, over to MK for Wishes).

How old are your tickets? Most of the time your tickets are worth more as is, than to upgrade.

These are the rules for upgrading non MYW tickets to MYW tickets:
The tickets, (only tickets sold through a Disney approved outlet may be modified) may modified to a greater or equal dollar amount.
If they are modified, any used ticket entitlements MUST match on the new ticket
If the old ticket was used in more than one park on any one day, the new ticket MUST include the Park Hopper Option.
If the old ticket was used at a water park, PI or Sports Complex, the new ticket MUST include the Magic Plus Pack.
If it has been longer than 14 days since the 1st use, the new ticket MUST include the No Expiration Option.
If an old ticket has NEVER been used, options do not necessarily have to match, as long as the ticket is of greater or equal value

They determine the cost by swiping the ticket through the computer. It will give the dollar amount still left on the ticket. This is configured by the original amount that was paid for the ticket divided by the number of days (a plus option does not count as a day), then the amount per day is multiplied by the number of Park days you have left and that is what you will receive toward your new ticket.

Hope that helps!:)

Thank you both for your dead-on info! Just what I was looking for! I had a hunch that my current tix were worth more than the new ones... it's just that I paid for them long ago and am looking to keep my costs right now as low as possible. I might be willing to take a hit to not have to pay much right now. One more quick question... Can they handle all this at the resort desk, or would this have to wait until we are at a park gate?

Thanks,
Chrissy :earsgirl:

Since the MYW tickets drop in price sharply after 4 days, I think it is now generally better to turn in your existing passes and upgrade. You should check at Guest Relations (might have to be at a Park Guest Relations office rather than the resort) to see what your credit would be and then look at the total cost for your total number of days.

A 2-day MYW ticket is very pricey on a per-day basis, particularly if you want those days to have park-hopper rights.

DancingBear, that's kind of what I was thinking... I definitely think I won't be getting my heart set on any one solution until I get down there. So many things to consider! Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I have a ? regarding the price of your park hopper. Mine was purchased through hotwire, when disney swipes my ticket they know what I paid for it through hotwire, or they base it on the price of the original 4 day park hopper plus price sold directly through disney, whatever that is?._I'm also trying to figure out if I upgrade to a 5 day park hopper if I could come out almost even, since I don't need the non-expiration. Since I wasn't planning on doing disney around the celebration,we would have moved on to Universal and Sea world that it would be nice to have the extra day to hop in for the couple new rides before we head home!

I also purchased my tickets through Hotwire - Do the upgrade these?

I purchased a 7 day - I have 3 days left - I need 4 days for my next trip.

Will they allow me to add one day if I convert it to a MYW?

Thanks,
-K

Guest Relations will credit you for the price that shows on their screen when they swipe your ticket. For a Hotwire ticket, that will be the wholesale price of the ticket that Disney sold it to Hotwire for.

You can get any length MYW ticket you desire since you are not upgrading in Disneyspeak. They will only be applying the dollar value credit of the old ticket towards the new one.

OK, I thought I was done with my questions...

I got my 4 day hopper through Ticketmania. Does anyone have any experience with what the "wholesale" price may be for that one? Anyone upgraded a pass from them with Disney? I have never used it at all. Any kind of a ballpark figure would be awesome to know... :listen:

Thanks,

Here is our situation....I have 2 unused 5day hoppers from 5 years ago. (I purchased them at a CM discount)
I need to upgrade to 8 day MYW.
so doing the math.....
right now the 5 day hopper works out to $35/day.
If I just purchase another 3 day MYW + hopper tic....$219...Yikes! :scared1:
But an 8 day MYW + hopper is $252....sounds much better!

So if I subtract what I paid back then....I need to pay an extra $77. So I am thinking that $77 for 3 days is a lot better than $219!!! ::yes::
And that still means that for 8 days....it is $31.5 / day.

Now....you might say that I could save the 5 day PH for a shorter trip....but if we ever do anything less than 8 days.....I would just get the 10 day MYW and add the hopper and no expire. So it would equal the same as the 5 day is now.....$35 / day.

NOW .... my dilema...and question..... We arrive very late...and plan on a very early PS .... Can we do the upgrade at the resort??

I'm afraid we won't get to our early PS if we have to wait to do the upgrade at the park's guest service.

We were given $248.27 for unused 5 day hopper plus tickets purchased at Ticketmania. We were able to do the exchange at the guest relations desk at Wilderness Lodge. We traded for 6 day MYW tickets with the hopping and plus features. As noted previously, we did not have to add the non-expire feature.

Yes but as explained above it is a trade up, not an expansion and also as explained above the MYW you are trading up to must have non-expiration and all the attributes an old partly used ticket had. This makes trade-up only a fair deal as opposed to a good deal.

All of the good deals require that you have yet another vacation in your foreseeable future:

1. Buy new passes for all of this vacation and save the remains of the 7 day hoppers.
2. Trade up to a 10 day non-expiring pass.
3. Buy a 10 day non-expiring pass, then it doesn't matter whether you use the old ticket or the new ticket first except try to carry only one ticket in your wallet on any given day.

Thanks, that answered my question....so we will be able to take care of upgrading the tickets when we check in and be ready to hit the parks for our PS early in the AM!!
Now....I am wondering if since the 5 day PH we have don't expire.....will they give us the non-expriring MYW ticket with out charging the extra $ ??

No, you're getting a dollar for dollar credit.
