Exchanging Aussie $ to US $

Hi we are staying at HoJo's and need t0 exchange some Australian cash into US$. Can anyone tell where I can do this and also get the best possible exchange rate for my money?

I know you can exchange your money at the airport; that is the only location that I'm positive about. I used to hear that larger banks would exchange foreign currency, but when I was planning a trip to Italy 5 years ago the big 2 banks (Bank of America and Wells Fargo) both said they were unable to exchange for me.

The rates suck at the airport, but its a case of better safe than sorry.

Can you do the exchange in Australia before you come? I did that here in Canada. I just order it online through my bank and in 5-10 days it comes to the bank and I go pick it up.

Never exchange at an airport, the rates suck.

You can always exchange at a bank to US dollars, but exchanging from US dollars requires having the bank order the currency, which takes 2-3 days.

The easiest way is just by using your debit card at any bank ATM (a bank branded ATM, not a generic one). That gets you the best rates.

I would check with your local bank, and see if they would be willing to do the exchange for you. I couldn't hurt to ask, and since USD is a pretty universally accepted form of currency, I can't see it being a problem. Or worse can scenario, try to get some USD travellers cheques, in smaller denominations such in $20USD amounts.

I just re-read this and realized that you are at the HOJO now, so my plan wouldnt work for you. Sorry But MAH4546's idea sounds good.

Sorry, my apologies, is misread the post as well. I would check with HOJO's staff, and see they can reccomend a place where you can exchange the money. They are very helpful, and they might be able to help you out.

In addition, City Hall in Disneyland Park or the Guest Relations Lobby in Disney California Adventure Park will be happy to exchange your Australian Dollars for U.S. Dollars. Please note, however, that exchange rates for those locations are fixed by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. on a daily basis, and may or may not reflect current market or bank exchange rates.

As mentioned previously, the best rates are available by using your Debit/EFTPOS Card to withdraw cash from an ATM. If you have a Visa or MasterCard Debit Card, you can use most Bank ATMs in the U.S. to withdraw money. If you have a non-branded EFTPOS Card, you can use it at one of the following ATM/Bank locations in the Anaheim region, depending on your Australian bank:

Any Chase ATM located throughout the Disneyland Resort.
