I notice the exchange rate on msn.ca this morning says .879

Would you take this as being as good as it gets and pay off your Sept trip now? Or maybe make a small payment and wait a while and see if it gets better? I have to have it paid by mid June (the cruise part anyways, need to check on the WDW part).

Any advice?

Here's my two cents on that...as long as oil and gas are going up it seems our dollar follows suit. So the prediction is that this summer it will sky rocket again, then so will our dollar. Now this is just my experience and opinion. We are waiting abit to buy US dollars again, but like anything who knows, jus keep in mind what I said and watch the oil and dollar price over the next few days and jusge for yourself.

Wendy:confused3

That is what i think too.

Been wondering the same thing too. We are going in December, and I want to book and pay soon, but will wait and see a little bit more. It would be nice for our dollar to be as close to at par as possible.

Id wait, gas and the Canadian dollar seem to go up simultaneously (sp?)...and they are predicting that the gas prices will be up to close what it was at last summer...ya think the gas companies think the recession is over???

:confused3

I never thought of the correllation between gas and the dollar!
Thanks for the advice, I will hold out a while and watch the two numbers for a bit.

Thanks for the advice

Holy crap! I've been following the dollar daily except the last few days and it was on a bit of a pullback! I didn't expect to see it stronger than ever for this year all of a sudden! Keep going! :woohoo:

Really glad that I pulled the trigger back in late April and paid off my trip at 82 cents or so :headache:...there's $100 plus I'll never get back!

Forgive my ignorance, but does that mean that if I am planning a trip into Canada, now would be a good time to get some Canadian money for that trip? Or should I wait? I know I sound like an idiot, sorry.

Well, it would be a BAD time to buy Canadian money! When us (Canadian) buy US money for cheaper, you (American) will have to pay more to get Canadian dollars. For example, now it would cost you 0.88$US for each $CAD you'd get. A few months ago, you could have paid as low as 0.78$US for each $CAD.

Now, there is no way to predict the future of each currency, so will the situation improve from your point of view (we hope not for us! :lmao:), it's a gamble. With oil price rising, the $CAD could get higher (i.e. more expensive for you). If your trip is far away, you could do like us, watch the exchange rates, and when it gets at a certain point, buy.

Thanks for setting me straight! I told you I was clueless about this stuff. :rotfl:

I am rushing out every chance i get to exchange money and then just putting it aside for our trip in November...hoping that way we have lots saved by then and we dont notice it as much. I am also thinking we will pay the balance of our trip off in the next few weeks with the dollar being strong.....hope it keeps rising for all of us with US vacations planned!!!

I went and bought $1000 USD today. I'm planning on buying another $500 USD each payday until the trip, hopefully it'll cost me less each time I buy. :goodvibes

WooHoo, 89.26!!

Quick question....
I have my reservations through Dreams Unlimited, so I pay by credit card. Will my credit card get the better rates too or will I be dinged with exchange fees?
Whats the best way to pay off my trip?

We have a US Mastercard, which we use to pay our US transactions (i.e., Disney trips, cross-border shopping sprees, etc.). When the CDN $ hits a high (like now @ 89cents), we pay off our US Mastercard.

Also, we have been buying small amounts of US cash (~$200-$500) as our CDN $ has been slowly climbing. We didn't want to buy all our US cash at once, as it always has the potential to climb bit by bit. This is a cautious approach, but it works for us.

Hey cool another Richmondite visiting Disney World the same time as us. :goodvibes

We're waiting a little bit longer. My friends and I are paying ours off by the end of June but exactly "when" depends on if the currency keeps going up or if it starts to slip. If it slips two cents or so, after the climb, we're not risking it slipping anymore.

Hi to you!!! We're in sunny Steveston...where are you? How can we NOT go to WDW with the cheap airfares and the free dining?!?! :cool1: Are you flying from Seattle?

Cambie/5 Rd area. We got free dining and upgraded to Deluxe. Three of us are going. We run a teenager centre in the area that turns 15 years old in a few weeks, so our 'celebration' is going on a looong holiday during our August closure.

All three of us are heading to Orlando at different times from different locations. I am actually going to be in L.A. before I head over to Orlando so I'm flying from there; one friend decided to pay the extra and go from Vancouver and our 3rd person is meeting us a few days later but chose to fly the smart route, from Seattle. We're all flying to Vancouver through on the way home because we wanted to max out our final day and stay as long as we could before work the next day.

I still have some time before paying off our trip but I'm hoping for .95 by mid-summer. If that's the case I'll buy then if things seem to decline in the next week I'll probably pay half off now and wait to see. Other than the Bank of Canada does anyone have any good sites to recommend watching?
