How often do we read a title like *that* these days?
A few weeks ago, I booked an award flight from Los Angeles to Orlando. Unfortunately, United has done away with its non-stop redeye flight that I usually take, so I took a connecting flight through IAD.
Well, in looking around on the net today, I found that the non-stop had returned to the schedule. Unfortunately, I was already booked, and United has a $150 change fee that applies even to award flights. Nonetheless, I called to see what might be done. I expected to ask about the options for flying standby.
Well, not only was my CSR very friendly and with a good sense of humor, after a minute or two on hold he told me that because of my years with United, he was able to make a "one-time only" exception and put me on the non-stop flight at no charge.
So this will allow me to arrive about five hours earlier. Not sure what I'll do with those five hours, but if I want to go to a park on my first day, it sounds like I have a chance of making it by rope-drop.
