Does anyone have a really good (and easy!) apple crisp recipe to share? I've made 2 recipes in the last couple years, but neither one turned out to be anything special. Dh is a BIG apple crisp fan, so I need to find a great recipe. Thanks!!

By chance were any of the ones you tried posted in the recipe section of the Creative Community here on the DIS? If not, here are two that I have had really good luck with :goodvibes:

This is the best apple crisp recipe I have ever made, and we are EXTREMELY picky when it comes to our crisp! ;)

10 cups all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup water

1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter, melted

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degree C).
Place the sliced apples in a 9x13 inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and ground cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. Pour water evenly over all.
Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes.

Please note! I do tend to cut down the sugar amount some myself; I like to taste the apple first along with the sweetness, ya know? Some people like it sweeter tho, so it's to your own taste. Also, I tend to make a double batch of the "crust" because the recipe above makes it pretty thin. Also to your own taste. :)

what better for a cool autumn day than a warm apple crisp for dessert tonite?..serve it with ice cream or cool whip!

5 apples, peeled and sliced (I used fairly large ones)
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
3/4 cup Quaker Oats
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 stick butter softened
1/2 cup apple juice or water

preheat oven to 375 and grease a 9 x 9 pan

put half the apples in the pan..blend together remaining ingredients EXCEPT water or juice, whichever you are using, and crumble half the flour mixture over the apples. Cover with remaining apples and flour mixture..pour juice or water over top..Bake 35 min..serve warm or cold

Enjoy!

Thanks so much!! :goodvibes Can't wait to give it a go.

Tell me - which kind of tart apple would you suggest? :thumbsup2

I use MacIntosh apples for my apple crisp - we like our crisp and apple pie to mush down, but they are usually tart when fresh. I just use 6-8 apples in an 8 X 8 pan. For a topping I use a package of the maple flavor instant oatmeal and add like 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 c. white sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar and 1 t. cinnamon. I cut in about 1/4 c. softened butter and sprinkle on top. Bake about 30 minutes at 350. Super easy & super yummy!

This time of year your choices are more limited. I would go with a Granny Smith now if you can, McIntosh in the fall.

There is a recipe for a caramel apple crisp from Taste of Home that I made one time. It was delicious!

Caramel Apple Crisp

Ingredients
3 cups old-fashioned oats
2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup cold butter, cubed
8 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples
1 package (14 ounces) caramels, halved
1 cup apple cider, divided

Directions
In a large bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in butter until crumbly. Press half of the mixture into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Layer with half of the apples, caramels and 1 cup oat mixture. Repeat layers. Pour 1/2 cup cider over top.
Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30 minutes. Drizzle with remaining cider; bake 15-20 minutes longer or until apples are tender. Yield: 12-14 servings.
