I have a friend whom I worked with last year whose husband died in a car accident last night.. now I am at a lost about what to do

I left my job in june last year.. we have seen each other once since then.. spoken a couple of times but not for the last few months!

but i want to be there for her.. any help would be great

thanks

Maybe you could call her and send over a tray of food. Let her know that you are there for her. I am so very sorry to hear about this. :grouphug:

I'd send a card and attend the service (if you feel comfortable doing so). When some time passes take her out to lunch. A lot of people/family are there for her now but when everything is over she'll need friends more than ever.

Maybe send flowers or some food.

I've had something similar happen. Hadn't seen the co-worker in a while, but I went immediately to the hospital (in this case, the husband was on life-support following a head injury) and just made myself available to help in any way I could, for the duration.

I've always felt that it's better to offer more help than is wanted/needed than to risk not doing what your heart tells you to do.

I'd probably go to the wake &/or funeral and then call her in a few weeks when everything dies down and go out to lunch or dinner.

She'll need support fo ra while, and most folks are there for a couple of weeks after a death, then life goes on as normal for them, but meanwhile the bereaved is still shell-shocked.
