Post merger the prices are crazy. I am flying on 5/18/12 for a Disney Cruise I purchased very early. I paid $239pp which is OK but a little higher than usual. I have been checking my same flights now and the price is $439pp. Wow.

We are from New Jersey and have been flying Continental to MCO from EWR for years. Airline prices have gone up, however since you are trying to fly from the NJ airport during "Jersey week", they have inflated the prices. Last year we flew round trip from EWR to MCO during Sept for $200, it's a slow time of year for travel to Florida. It's the same as WDW resorts, they are higher during the peak periods.

I expected them to be higher. We fly this time every year and can usually get the 4 of us round trip for around $1500...now $2700!?!?!? IF this is because of the merger, does that mean they will go down again or am I looking into driving?!!

Try and wait for Jetblue prices to come out. We love jetblue and you don't pay any baggage fee that continental charges. There's no way I would pay that kind of price for a 2 1/2 hour flight.

I don't know how Continental priced fares before the merger, but I've been a United flyer for many years now and they rarely have had fare sales 9 months out. Maybe Continental will adopt or more closely match the fare pricing strategy of United? I usually find fare sale prices anywhere from 2-4 months out. It could be that you're looking too early for a November trip.

In fact, on a trip from LAX to MCO last October, my pretty good fare actually dropped to the lowest point just 6 weeks before my trip and stayed that way until 4 weeks out. I think that's rare and I wouldn't wait that long. But I wouldn't get too concerned yet this far in advance of a November flight. And I hope you find better fares in a few months! :goodvibes

The prices seem to have skyrocketed for Continental out of Newark at all times. I have been looking for August and they're way up then too. Do you have the option to go to LaGuardia, JFK or Philly? If you could, American out of JFK, Delta out of LGA or US Air out of Philly could probably save you some serious money given your EWR quotes.

I'm facing the same thing for August. I've been watching all the airlines out of Newark and Continental flights which are usually very reasonable have skyrocketed. I'm really unsure what to do as DH does not want to drive or go to another airport. Last week I managed to grab a flight home when I saw a price dip for the flight I wanted, but now we have to get there. They seem to be going up now.

A friend of mine went during Jersey week last year and flew out of Philly for a great price, I'd do that over driving. Good Luck!

the prices on Continental out of Newark have shot through the roof since they merged with United. We are driving to Orlando for the first time on Spring Break. It saves us $2000!!! You are a little far out though for Jersey Week to get a good fare yet. Southwest and JetBlue only have their flights available for sale through the last week of September.

I priced out Continential for the third week in Aug and it was 1485:scared1: just now I priced it and it was the same. DH is bound and determined to drive...I however am still looking for low airfare.

I have the same problem. When does JetBlue usually release for November?:confused3

I'm shocked at the airfare for November. $600/RT!!! I did keep my eye on them last year just to stalk, and they did go down to somewhere around $250, a few months out. I don't expect them to get that low this year since every month I check seems to have gone up around $40-50, but be patient and give it some time, it should go down. Once SW posts their fares for that timeframe, check them out of Philly, they are usually pretty reasonable.

If it doesn't go down to a reasonable price, we'll be going in September and taking the kids out of school for a few days:sick: since there are usually minimal resort discounts available in November. Add that to the high airfare and it'll be over a thousand less to go in Sept (hopefully with free dining).

Not sure where you live in NJ, but we fly out of Philly now 90% of the time. Usually to Orlando, Las Vegas, or John Wayne (California DL trips). And most often we use SW, but also US Airways and Air Tran.

Sometimes Continental is WAY less out of Philly too, esp. to the west coast.
