Everything you need to know about MagicBands.

Here for our first day today--- SDFP worked beautifully! I think we only stood in 3 standby lines all day. One CM did ask DH why we had two MBs, but DH just said, we just wanted to wear our old ones too, and that was it.

Wow, this was so helpful! My family and I are staying off property for our next Disney vacation, and I have been looking for more information about the MagicBand to see if it's worth it for us to purchase them. (I'm still not sure if we will... but you gave me all the information I will need to make a decision.)

Thank you so much, @Accident!

Same thing here. Maybe we should buy only one band ...

Have read conflicting information. Do you need to have a pin number to use the magic band to pay for a meal with meal plan credits? Related: are all magic bands associated with a room meal plan able to be used for payment with meal plan credits (a child's, for example).
Merged you to the MB thread where @Accident has confirmed you need a Pin for the Dining Plan. And MB will provide the link to Dining Plan credits.
I have been trying for several weeks to change the pin in my MDE (don't know what number is in there now); have tried different browsers and also PC and Mac and nothing works; always get an error message. Technical support can't help: they say they are having problems with this, and they told me I did not need the pin to use the magic band with the meal plan. We intend to check in on line and go directly to the parks where we need to use the band for the dining plan. I don't know what I should do.
The Pin info was recently posted on the previous page by Accident. You may want to ask this on the Dining Board: Subforum for Disney Dining Plan. That should have the latest info for you. Hope you get some answers before your trip. :)

I can't see disney removing the pin for meal plans so it must be some major backend issue if they have. That just makes every magic band a target to be stolen and someone go to town with your meal plan. The pin is the thing that makes the bands worthless except for design to someone else.

I was at wilderness lodge having dinner last night and I would have asked, not sure when I'll be around a resort to inquire if this is actually happening or if it's a rare case by case situation where they pin could be removed... If anyone has been to wdw property recently with the meal plan, maybe you can chime in on if you needed the pin to get food.

I have a question and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it... I'm from Canada so our magic bands are to be picked up at the resort. I am doing a split stay at the swan for the first three nights and contemporary for the last six nights. Am I able to pick up my magic bands from contemporary early to use during the first half of my trip?

I honestly don't know, I would think they ship together to the first resort but it is a split stay and your picking it up so I wouldn't be shocked if the second set is sent to that resort. I'd like to know what happens when you get to the first resort.

I want to make sure I have this right: I can use any Magic band that is still under my name in the MDE ap? For some reason Disney sent me plain grey (which is not what I wanted) and I have red and pink at home. I can take those and use them for my next trip without any problems, right? And they will open my hotel room too?

I just added a couple more points:
.

Do you know if you have to scan your ticket before you can use fastpass plus? We will be in the parks already as a gift. We purchased MNSSHP tickets for the night time which we are able to make fast pass reservations online. Can we try to use the fastpass we booked early in the day before the party? Or it won't let us do it until we scan our ticket?

The card will work although you can't get in before 4pm with just a party ticket so you have to have a magicband or card for your other ticket .. either should work for fastpass.

As long as they are assigned to you, and say active in MDE they will work interchangeably. You have the option to disable any you don't want to work and if you report any lost they would say lost but you can reactivate them at any time..

The only exception is cards so if you have any cards like an annual pass and you want that to work with the resort features (room and maybe purchases), then the resort needs to get involved to activate it for that. This isn't the card thread but it is a valid option if you don't like magicbands and want to request a card from the resort (or you have one for something else).

This is probably not possible to do but I'd like to know if maybe it would. I am an annual passholder but do not live in the USA (Canada) and the magic band won't ship to my house. If a few days before I arrive at the hotel in Disney where I'm staying, I customize it and have it sent to the address of the hotel, would I get the magic band? Referring of course to the annual passholder magicband. I enjoy getting a magic band when I get to Disney and I would love to get the slider you see.

I apologize if this question has been asked... I did search the site. With the new Magic Bands do your park ticket days still not start until the first use at the park? We have PSD for the first 8 nights and RO for the last 2 nights . will we use our old bands for park entrance and new bands for room key? My scenario, we will be arriving very late Thursday for a 10 night stay but my park ticket is for 9 days so I want to make sure that it will not start when we get our MBs on Thursday night.

Nothing is "on" a Magic Band, so you can use whichever band you want for each part of your trip.

Oh I thought your park tickets were linked to your MB. So the MB we wear in the beginning of the trip will have our park tickets and the MB we wear for the RO nights will have just RO?

No, the bands are only linked to a person and when you use the band, disney looks up that person in mde to find out what that person has assigned to them.... whatever is in your mde assigned to that person is what both magicbands will do. They are interchangeable and you can use either mb at any time for anything in MDE. (room, all tickets, meal plan, charging to room, fp, etc).

My daughter's friend told me yesterday that her mother's friends got caught using more than one set of bands and that Disney fined them. I tried to explain that this is not possible but I don't think she believed me. Good, so maybe those who believe such a stupid story will not try and there will be fewwer people in line. The things people say sometimes.

Fined? I never heard of anyone being fined before so I think the wording might be incorrect for what happened. I do know you can loose your Annual pass and possibly end up banned from property for loaning it to someone (free parking, fastpasses, etc). you couldn't use it for park entrance with the finger print scan (ehhh there might be one way this would work but i'm not going to mention it as I want everyone to pay so the prices flatten out better).

I recently updated my friends and family in MDE. When I went to customize our MBs, the old friends and family came up and would not load/update the page. Then it said it is not available at this time. Is there possibly a tech glitch of some sort in the MB part of MDE?

not uncommon for the site or app to have some issue. If your running out of time or concerned, call up and have them help with the changes over the phone.

Heading to Disney for our 3rd trip in November. First trip was the old paper fast passes (I miss those) and no magic bands. Second trip we did FP+ and magic bands were new so I didn't do them. This trip we are staying off-site. I just want to make sure my understanding is correct. Having a magic band will be my ticket into the park and for FP. I will not be able to link a credit card to my band. Will I be able to use is for photopass? I am not getting memory maker this go around, but I do want a few pictures and will have my 2 free Disney Visa card downloads. If I can't use magic band for those, I think there isn't much benefit to me. Do I have this correct?

Also, I have a friend heading down at the end of October (first trip). She is staying at SOG and I don't believe they link their room keys to magic band at this time. Is this correct? Also, would she be able to use it with a credit card (does it have to be a Disney Visa) and for memory maker that she just ordered? Also, they are moving off-site for the last 2 days of their trip, but plan to go to the MVMCP on their last day. Would the magic bands still work as before they moved off-site?

First you don't have to get a magicband at all. The features of the band missing when staying offsite are resort features, ride photos for rides without a claim photo screen after the ride (7dmt, fea) and rides that have you riding it video (7dmt, tot I think is all at this time). Resort features are charging to the room and room key. There is no option to charge using your band without a disney resort room. There is also storyteller features that may or may not have been turned off recently that also need the band to work (basically your name or similar on some screen during some rides or in the queue waiting to ride).

So yes, you have it correct but you can skip the magicband with the exception of the above ride items if you don't want to get any. If you pick this route, then you need to stop after after ride to claim your photopass photo and you'll use the hard ticket for fp, park ticket and photopass.

I actually don't know the situation with Shades of Green, I would recommend she calls them to find out what the situation with the bands are. I may do the same as I'm curious because it's hazy on the disney resort status and I can see this being handy to know.
