Everyone talks about the shrimp....

I live near the North Carolina coast, so I understand and appreciate good seafood. Whilst I've had better elsewhere, I still think of the shrimp onboard as being a decent treat.

Other seafood, like the sushi for instance, leaves a lot to be desired.

<sheesh> Now I'm wondering whether there are any fish houses open this morning. I'm ready for some Calabash-style fried shrimp and scallops. mmmmmmmmm.....

SAM - Love the calabash style seafood! I'm going to Myrtle Beach and can't wait to get some! :cheer2:

Can I dare to say you could likely get the same ones on the Friday night seafood buffet at Shoney's. :bitelip:

*ouch* I think that's going too far.

Then again, I haven't eaten at Shoney's in years - and that's ok by me.

LOL! That settles it. I'm having a fried combo plate at Ocean Stars tonight.

You guys are no good when it comes to helping me resist my temptations.

Having grown up on the Chesapeake Bay I've had my share of shrimp.

If you are a shrimp afficianado then they are nothing special but are still good. If you don't have access to good quality shrimp back home or rarely have shrimp but love them, then they are a treat. My favorite are steamed in beer and spicy with Old Bay.

Hey Mark,

I've taken about every type of seafood possible out of the bay (see photo), and I agree.

My girls and I were out at Sunday brunch and we all laughed since the restaurant had three things on the table, salt pepper and "old bay", all in the same type of shaker. Only in MD.

After all the hype, we were kind of expecting "tiger" shrimp, what we call extra large or jumbos.

These are what I call mediums.

Certainly bigger than what I would expect for peel and eat.

Don't get me wrong.

They are tasty!

Not Calabash-style, but I highly recommend Lee's Inlet Kitchen in Murrell's Inlet, south of Myrtle Beach. Get there early because they ALWAYS have a line.

Best hushpuppies I've ever had anywhere.

I'll be there in April and we stay in South Myrtle Beach so it's not too far from Murrell's....yum. :cool1:

These were good, fresh shrimp. I too expected larger shrimp based on what I had read here. There are the same size as you would get at Long John Silvers, or any other fish restaurant. (Not popcorn shrimp).
I guess technically the ones I was expected would actually be prawns. I was kind of hoping they would be the really huge ones that weigh 4 or 5 ounces each.
