okay...
this everyday mathematics thing is getting me mad! My sister uses this book and they teach her different ways of doing things and when i try to help her, i show her the way i learned things and it's completely different. What gets me mad is she yells at me cuz she thinks her way is right and my way is wrong. what do you guys think about this issue...

I don't pay attention to math books or math teachers when they try to teach me shortcuts and ways of doing things. I just find a way that works, and use that.

as long as you get the right answer with out cheating, then both ways are right. there are many ways you can solve different math problems and still get the right answer. such as quadratics.

my problem is that she's younger and she won't listen to me...
i'm in advanced math and you'd think she'd take advantage of having a sister like that...

My little cousin told me about that everyday math stuff.

Seems reeeeally stupid to me.

Why do they just all of a sudden change the way to do math?

just let her do it her way. if it works than thats fine. if she is getting the wrong answers then you can tell her what she is doing wrong, but as long as she is getting the right answers, she should be fine. And you shouldnt worry about it.

but she's not all that good at math and she needs help so my parents ask me to help her so i play the nice sister act in the beginning but after like the 5th problem she goes quits on me...

:cutie: Oops....sounds a little bit like me. (I fibbed, sounds ALOT like me) :cutie:

Reverse yourself into a 17 year old, tall boy... and you've got me fighting with my brother over he's wrong because my ways right.(He's always right in the end but let's just keep that quiet) :)

Because math all of a sudden needs to be fun.

1+1=2. Its as simple as that. But noooooooooooooooooooo. You can't just drill and drill and drill things anymore.

Lol..Same here...That happens with my parents when I ask for help, I do it one way they do it the other..

Also the tricks they tell you for remembering things are too complicated. Here is how I learned the times tables from my 3rd grade teacher....

"Eight Times Eight fell on the floor. Picked it up it was 64."

...and other little rhymes and rythems like that. Except for the 9s. The way I know them is kind of complicated.

idk, I just memorize the formulas and stuff. in like 3rd or 4rth grade we made flash cards and just memorized them.

i just memorized the times tables cuz math just comes naturally to me...
i guess i could say that...

*Tick Tock Tick Tock* WAIT! I'e figured it out... actually, my dad did. When I was 6 my brother hit me in the face with a golf club and it effected my learning skills just a bit because I can't do subtraction in my head.

Wow! that's why I am so stupied!

Don't worry Melissa; your sister is probably just frustrated because she wants to learn it the way the teacher taught it. I know how frustrating it is when you give someone help but they get mad at you. Don't worry about it! :thumbsup2

Melissa,

Everyone gets mad at someone sometimes. But with my brother, we arn't talking ANYMORE....see how far that'd get cha.

my mom explained everything to me...
she talked to my sister and Natalie thinks that i'm gonna make fun of her if she gets a problem wrong...
that is it...
