Hi friends and Happy New Year. I just wanted to make this observation from stories I was hearing last night at my neighbors NYE get together. Well, some of you may have read my gripes as of late about the post office. After 15 years of being there, the atmosphere is deteriorating and we are being treated worse and worse. My neighbor #1 was talking about her job. She has worked for a major airline for 20 years, most as a flight attendant. She has always commuted to Orlando airport and worked out of there. Now she will have to work out of Atlanta! She has a few options to get around this, none of which are appealing and all are a big step down from where she has been. Now neighbor #3 is a schoolteacher, for almost 20 years. She was complaining that she is being made to teach extra periods and is being bombarded with huge class sizes that she cannot handle.
I felt so bad as we were all talking together, realizing how much we had in common with our dismal job situations. I guess you always assume if you get into a good profession and do a good job for a long period of time...thing will get better. NOT!!!!!!You guys are so insightful-so tell me...what is your take on this?

I think alot of employers have reduced staff over the years -- leaving more & more work for less employees. Combine more work with less pay or stagnant pay.......well, that leads to that sucky job feeling.

You can't escape it. It's the way the work place has become. :(

Not only are jobs getting harder to find and less rewarding but those employees are doing less and less to satisfy their customers. I guess the old idea that a happy employee will create happy customers which will add dollars to the bottom line just isn't in vogue anymore. It's unfortunate.

DH got laid off 6 days before Christmas

Yeah my job sucks, but at least I have one.

dcgrumpy, that is what i keep telling myself too. although there are times when my job really sucks, i am thankful i still have one.

good luck to your dh.

Companies don't seem to value good employees anymore. My job is becoming not too pleasant and I don't see it getting better:(

Sorry you're unhappy with your job right now, ez.

I'm thinking of finding a new job myself, there's a opening for a hostess at the karaoke bar I'm a regular at and it sounds better than where I am now(which is getting worse)

at the library, the part timers make more per hour than the fulltimers

I worry about having a job ,6 mos from now,i love my job!!!Sometimes the people suck ,but not the job.

Wish me luck. I not only did the job for which I was hired 5 1/2 years ago but absorbed the billing clerk and admin assistant's jobs when they were laid off. I was also served as a back up for a co-worker and assumed his five accounts when he was off. I have not had a raise in 2 years. The final straw was the "pay enhancement". My company decided to save money by doing away with our paper pay stubs. They plan to have 3 year's worth of W2, W4 and pay vouchers stored on the Internet for our "easy access". Unfortunately the only way to opt out of this program was to quit. I gave my notice and my last day was December 20th. I went to a temp agency and by December 23rd, I had a position. I start a new job on January 10th. I may take a small pay cut, but my peace of mind and freedom of choice are worth it to me.

I am a fifteen year Part-time employee, and the Manager keeps making everyone else, that has maybe 1 or 2 years with the company, Full Time! What's with that?

despite what my DH says, I don't think my job is sucking

I think since he works in the private sector his view is much different than mine...

I have to admit my job is really sucky right now too, only because my hours has been cut major time. Looking for another job, with no luck. But I haven't put full effort into it yet. Starting mondayI am going to be at peoples doors begging for a job.

dcgrumpy - my DH got laid off today - it's temporary, but it still stinks. Best wishes to your DH and your family.

My job stinks at times too, but I'm grateful that I have a part time one at least.

Keep the faith everyone - winter seems to bum everybody out :(
