Every Wish That We Put Into Motion.... (comments welcome!)

Checking in. Basketball season is hitting me like a truck. Not really. But it will by Saturday afternoon. I can feel that I need to foam roll my hamstrings today, and I have what should be 2 very up-and-down-the-court games tomorrow to be ready for. I'll be getting in a solid 10+ hours on the court this week, and that should be pretty consistent until the week of Christmas. Just the kick in the pants I needed. My achilles are hurting less, and my peroneal tendons are hurting more. When we got home last night and settled after our games (in which I apparently had waaaaay too much caffeine) we sat in bed and watched about an hour of TV and both of my ankles just absolutely ached. The cardio will be there by January to get me through, it'll just be a matter of how much tylenol (and motrin...shhhhh!) that I need to take to get through race days.

I know I've talked about it in other threads, but I'm seriously so stuck on costume ideas. And the thought of really half-A'ing it makes me even less excited about things. I'm already super blah about the prospect of running (except the 5k with DD and DH) but to not be excited about the running AND not have a costume is really bothering me.

I explained my possum park sports team idea to DH. He's like "you'd have to explain it. there's no way I would have figured that out." Totally valid.

So I've started looking at the pieces that I already have to figure out what might work. TBD if all of them still fit since I've had a few for awhile and have gained about 25 pounds since I purchased some of them 4 years ago. But nothing is really making me feel like any sort of excitement. If you have any suggestions I'm definitely open to them.

There's always the Lions/Lion King mashup from last year! I hesitate to repeat a costume, so I get if that's not an option, but we got SO MANY comments and they are bound to still be in the playoffs (unlike my team, sigh).

I haven't even taken the stickers off that skirt yet, but the lions are super banged up and injured again and unless they get on a win streak, they too will miss the playoffs.

I've had a few other ideas that I have some/most of the parts to, but I'm just not excited about them at all.

For example, the alligator from Robin Hood/Fantasia....I have a green dottie with a red waist/bow. I have a couple of green shirts (or could get one for color purposes) and add in a super cheap SHORT shawl/cape off amazon and bingo bango. But I'm very meh about the idea.

Or I have like 50% of the stuff to do Judy hopps.

Or I have a blue sparkle skirt with white stars I could do something fantasia/sorcerer mickey.

Sorcerer Mickey would be a good idea for the full.

For the half, is there anything "romance" related you could pull together from stuff in your closet? I know you did the Rockford Peaches one year - that could kind of match the color theme?

Since you've been reffing, maybe something like a course referee? Or a basketball player from High School Musical?

Okay, hear me out - AIR BUD. You referee basketball and like/love dogs. You have a blue sparkle skirt. Presumably you can get a blue tank and yellow paint/felt to make a shirt.

I love this! And I second that anything "romance" related or even in the color scheme could go for the Half. I'm dressing as Ellie from UP (denim looking skort, button-down (hiking weight) short sleeve plaid shirt and a headband with balloons on it). I have a Grape Juice bottle top pin, but guessing some folks still won't get it.

Maybe @Herding_Cats can be Carl. :D

Another idea - since the main theme for the weekend is books, are there any book characters that jump out at you? Either books you like or kids? Maybe The Very Hungry Caterpillar/Runner. :D (My two outfits are based on Star Wars book characters.)

Did my first Goofy simulation this weekend! 2 hs boys basketball games on Friday night (3 hours) and a 2.5 hour hs girls scrimmage on Saturday morning. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I was dragging on Saturday, and I 100% came home and took a nap. (I also worked 2 ms boys games on Monday, and 2 hs boys games on Wednesday. That's a total of almost 11 hours.

My next simulation is on Tuesday/Wednesday. :rotfl2:

But for real. This is why I'm not overly worried about my fitness. Will I be in particularly good shape in January? Nope. Will it be good enough? Probably.
DS1's college campus was basically shut down since the week of Thanksgiving due to their main boiler heat system for most of the buildings having issues, and has been home since 11/21. He stays in the basement when he's here so he doesn't have to share a room with his brother, and that's where the treadmill and all the workout gear is. He has to go back for exams tomorrow, and I'll have to be good about kicking him out of the basement when I need to run on the treadmill once Christmas break starts for the rest of the kids and I don't have any games to work.

I've figured out a plan for my HM costume. I kept circling around the theme and landed on Cinderella-inspired. Planning on using my white dottie skirt with either my cindy-blue sparkle skirt as a top layer (have to check to make sure it doesn't bunch weirdly) or order some fabric to add a light blue top layer. Working on sourcing a light blue shirt that I'll cricut something on that says "So this is love" on the front and possibly "So this is what makes life divine" on the back. Still mulling over exact ideas, AND trying to decide on what shirt I want to use.
There's this shirt off amazon:

or this lululemon shirt in light blue off poshmark:

My hesitation with the lulu shirt is that it's a "waist length" shirt, which on my body reads as "cropped" and I don't like crop tops. But I feel like it looks more "princess-y." I *could* wear my skirt a little bit higher (honestly I might need to for it to fit better) to help with the cropped-ness, but it'll be non-returnable if it doesn't work. Uuuuuugh.

Still working on a marathon costume plan.

HAH. Poshmark is stupid. Yes, please send me an offer on your shirt that I liked. And when I counter you, refuse it, delete and repost the item for $15 more. *sigh*

Under Armour to the rescue with clearance stuff! The first part of my order will be here on Monday, and the remainder on Thursday.

I got this headband off etsy:

There's a decent chance I add the hook side of some velcro to the headband to hold it in place, which someone who I got a figment headband from the same seller did. The figment horns weighed almost nothing, and I honestly forgot I had them on, so I'm hopeful these are the same way.

Worked 3 basketball double-headers this past week, or about 7.5 hours. None of the basketball was good which makes my job harder. I have 4 double headers next week and then work a few more nights the 2 days leading up to our leave date for MW. I hadn't blocked off the Saturday (1/3) and when I got 2 games that day DH informed me that I better be packed before the 2nd since I'm notorious for packing and then unpacking/repacking because I've convinced myself that I checked something off the list but forgot to actually put it in.

I'm going to attempt my first treadmill run in awhile this afternoon. Planning on spending a couple of hours as long as my legs/ankles hold up.

I need to figure out an alternative to on-boarding 200mg of caffeine via a celcius for my basketball games. I refer to it as my liquid legs. And it sooooo works. I usually start drinking it before the JV game, and finish it by the time the break before the varsity games starts but then I can't fall asleep. And I need some sort of boost to chase these dang teenagers up and down the court.

I tried a liquid IV with caffeine (100mg) and it did basically nothing for me, but I came home that night, showered, and fell asleep about 5min after I got into bed.

So if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them. I feel like my issue is that the games are in the evening and my body is all hey we usually start winding down right now but for some reason you are sprinting???

Also, my husband got an up-close look last night at the extra commentary that I get to deal with on a regular basis with coaches since the gym we worked in was teeny tiny and described it as "eye-opening." Yeah babe. That's almost every night. He hasn't noticed it as clearly as last night because in the bigger gyms he's just further away and doesn't hear a much of what they say. Oh the joys of being one of 5 female referees for basketball in the 4-county area. It's been 15 hours and I'm still stewing about the garbage I had to deal with last night.

You are effectively running wind sprints for multiple hours at a time. Definitely hard on the feet and ankles.

Have you considered occasionally body checking some of the players to slow things down and get an injury break? 😇

IMHO, instead of the Liquid IV, maybe go with drinking water for hydration and eat something like fig newtons or non-caffeinated Clif bars for the needed carbs. Just about any kind of fruit bar (usually on the same aisle and with the Pop Tarts) or even Pop Tarts should work. YMMV

Of course I have! :rotfl2: Or. Ya know.....coaches who want to run their mouth at me.

I definitely need more than just carbs. I need caffeine, or something similar, and possibly different timing? I don't know. There's an enormous difference in how I feel during games +200mg of caffeine vs without any, and I do a better job of play-calling when I can think about the game and not how much work it is to run in the 2nd half.

Have you tried Ketone-IQ or 5 Hour Energy?
I haven’t tried either so I can’t recommend them. Des and Kara talk about Ketone-IQ on their podcast. I think they are sponsored by them - so I don’t know how accurate their review is, but it sounds like Des really likes them.

oh that might be a good idea about the Ketone-IQ. I know that 5hr energy has a lot of caffeine in it, so that's out. And I know from previous experience that a big dose of B and C vitamins messes with my sleep as well (emergenC after 2pm means I'm going to lay awake in bed until the wee hours of the morning.)
