see any animals? I'm getting ready to book a large family group at AK and spending the kind of money they are I want to make sure they have a great room. I've stayed there and had a pool view and LOVED it, there really are LOTS of spots to see animals. I'd hate for them to spend tons of cash on a savannah room and come back upset. Thanks

Hi.

Both my experiences at AKL have been very good for animal viewing but to be honest I have read a few negative reports where guests with Savanna rooms did not see much in the way of animals and were complaining about it.

There is nothing like throwing your drapes open first thing in the morning and stepping on your balcony to the sound of grazing animals, seeing giraffes and zebra, gazelle, kudu & ankole cattle.

It is really the luck of the draw, but there are many places at AKL to see the animals if there are none under your balcony. Even with no animals it is a gorgeous view, the savanna (especially Arusha) is beautiful.

>>^..^<<

We stayed there in Sept 2001 and were in a second floor corner room on a just opened savannah. We were very disappointed with the view. It could have been because this savannah had just opened. But we would never pay extra for a savannah room again. Now the AKL itself is beautiful, we would not hesitate to stay there again, I just wouldn't pay extra for the view. There are plenty of viewing areas thru out AKL to see the animals.

we had to take savannah rooms since this was the only kind htey had at AP discount rates, so I'm hoping for LOTS of animals when we go in Nov. (actually since we're payng that much anyway, I'm hoping to get concierge-not that much price difference-but I'll settle for animals)

There were some mornings when I was expecting the animals to be out and about but when I open my windows, there were no animals. I was a little disappointed but then again their savanah area is huge and they like to wander around ... I guess as long as you keep that in mind, you won't be disappointed :)

I don't know how you couldn't "see" any animals w/ a savannah view. I understand they may not be standing under your balcony or on your side of the savannah...but no matter what time of day we looked out there was always something out there. We were on Arusha Savannah....I don't know if people think they are going to see hundreds of animals b/c your not...sometimes we would look out a see one or two on our side and 10 across the way & laying in the bushes and sometimes there was 10 right outside our room....I guess it depends on expectations but we were thrilled. It is really is great to look out in the morning and evening when the animals are more active and not laying down.

When we checked in for our first AKL stay, we had a Savannah room ALLLLLLL the WAYYYYYYY down to one end of the building. Not only were there few or NO animals, it was one long schlep down to the lobby area. We were in that room about 10 minutes before I made the trek to the front desk. We were re-located to a better location at the resort. During our second AKL stay, we had a much better location not too far beyond the public center section where people walk out to look at the animals. In our experiences we never saw hundreds of animals. More like a couple of dozen. The animal viewing is nice, but the AKL is a fantastic resort regardless of beasts in the yard.

Because we are a family of 5, we stayed in a deluxe room, which are on the higher floors. There were some trees that blocked our view of a portion of the savannah. We did see some animals every day, but just by walking down the hall a little way, we could see a lot more. I'm not sure i would pay extra for savannah view again, based on our experiences. It is a beautiful resort and we enjoyed our stay, but we were hoping for more. Maybe it was the time of day we were looking, but we just didn't see much from our balcony.

We had a savannah view room on the second floor at the end of the Zebra Trail. (and I do mean the END)

When we went onto our balcony, we could see: A tree!
And that is it! Never could see anything except a tree!

We could hear the hot tub and if the tree wasn't there we probably could have seen it also.

We didn't ask to switch rooms because all we had to do was go down steps and we were at the pool and Mara., but if I had paid more for a savannah room I would have been really angry. (we were able to upgrade at $8/nite because CBR closed)

You can see animals from all over the resort and that was fine for my kids.

We had a bad experience at the AKL and haven't stayed there since and won't again. We had a deluxe savannah room at a deluxe savannah price. We hardly ever saw any animals from our balcony, unless you count the times when the feed truck came around to bribe them and when we asked to have our room moved they said no other rooms were available unless we wanted to be downgraded. I hope you have a much better experience and if you don't like your view I would nicely asked to be moved. Enjoy your trip.

The critters go indoors at midafternoon.

You can't control the animals. They'll go where they want. The keepers do bribe them with food to get them to go to certain areas.

We have had 2 fantastic stays at AKL. We could ALWAYS see animals no matter the time of day. Our 2yo DD usually fell asleep at the foot of the bed looking out the balcony at the zebra! So when she woke she would be looking out the balcony doors at the animals. She just loved that! We are having a hard time staying anywhere else! You'll love it!
