Everest Expedition Advice

Trying to figure out who in our group will be able to handle Everest Expedition. We're most concerned about Mom (not a roller coaster person) and our 9-year-old daughter.
Both LOVE Thunder Mountain Rail-Road, so trying to get a feel for how much more intense Everest is.
If Rock-N-RollerCoaster is a 10 -- and Space Mountain is a 7 -- and Thunder Mountain is a 6 -- where would Everest fall?
(Or if my above scale is off in your opinion, let me know!!!)

i would have to say everest falls as a 8 1/2 because its definately not as intense as rockn rollercoaster but much more intense than space mountain. to me it really wasnt that bad. i just didnt like the backwards part but the big drop was like nothing. got to ride twice on my trip and can't wait to ride again.

I am not a roller coaster fan either, but I did fine on it. I won't do Rock and Roller Coaster and have been on Big Thnder mOuntain a couplew of times. Most of EE is backwards.

My DH said he read a few posts where people suffered vertigo after riding EE and never felt the same all day. I really wanted to try it because I love Thunder Mtn., but I really don't care for RR and SM. Does anyone have an opinion about the vertigo effect?

Bumping this up for you. I am like you on TM,SM & RR. Also wondering if I will like EE. (And I am not a big fan of backwards stuff.)

EE wasn't bad i would call it an 8.my twins who are 11 loved it. we when on it 5 times back too back for a total of 17 in one day.

I'm not a big coaster fan. I ride BTMRR and that's about it. I LOVED EE. It was fun and just "scary" enough. I think your 9 year old would like it. Your mom probably would too!

I would definitely say EE is an 8 as well. We got my father ( almost 60 ) on Space Mountain and that was the limit for him and he is NOT a roller coaster person at all. He thought BTMRR and Test Track were pretty intense and Space Mountain was a one time shot for him. I think he was feeling brave, LOL

I wouldn't even offer for my father to ride EE as its just a little too much with the backwards, the darkness, the speed, etc. In all honesty, I think if you have to even think about whether or not someone is going to be capable of riding something, that probably means that its probably not gonna be a good choice for them to get on it. More than likely they are going to be too nervous to enjoy it anyways and EE isn't like Splash Mountain where there is tons to see inside. Its just a quick ride through the dark with a glimpse of a Yeti.

So unless the person getting on is a thrill seeker, I dont think EE would be enjoyable for them.

Hi ...

I have to say ... EE surprised me. I am fine with ALL the coasters ... but this one snuck up on me. I definitely was a bit "out of it" for at least a couple of hours following the ride. Not really nauseus ... I was able to have lunch ... but light-headed and a bit dizzy. I think it must have been the backwards section which is a bit longer and more intense than I expected. My DD, on the other hand wanted to go again! I also have a friend who can do MS several times in a row but was out of commission due to EE. Weird. It's a terrific ride but my rating would be awfully close to a 10.

I'm a coaster wuss, but I loved EE. The theming made a big difference. I would rate it a 9.

Like you, I had alot of questions about EE. I remember a DP gave a website link on live video of the ride awhile back. It helped alot in the decision on whether to get on or not. Especially when it came to the kids. Once my DD8 and my DS5 saw the video, they got really excited and can't wait to get on.

I think the problem is when you are going backwards through the dark. The train seemed to be going in several circles. I get dizzy now even thinking about it. I was dizzy and nauseaous for about 15-20 minutes after I got off. I think if you have problems with spinny rides (like tea cups) I would skip this one.

I love rollercoasters and think the only scary thing about RnC is the take off, other than that it is pretty tame. I thought EE was a combination of Space Mtn (dark, fast) BTMRR (vehicle, jerks) RnR (fast, twist, turns and loops).
Although I loved EE it did mess with my head somewhat, I tried to get out of riding it twice, but gave in to peer pressure and I didn't get sick at all the second time. I think the tension of the unknown made me stiff and sick the first time. The second time I was much more relaxed and didn't have any bad affects.
My DS (8,6) rode RnR and loved it, but had on interest in EE because of the Yeti. I really wanted them to go, but we made the right decision in them not riding because they would have had nightmares.

Thanks for the clip! I have got to get my vertigo under control by our trip in November. I refuse to let DH have all of the fun. Last trip I had to pass on Mission Space, Space Mountain, Teacups and barely made it though TM.

Wish me luck, I finally get to see the specialist on Wednesday morning.

I'd keep mom off of it. The feeling of pressure in your chest during the backwards part is really not comfortable.

WOW! What a great video.

My sister is eight, and I'm trying to talk her into riding that with us when we go for Labor Day. She's not to sure. I managed to get her on RnR, by not telling her it went upside down. She's terrified of going upside down. After the ride, she "politely" told me "I'm never riding that ride again!" Oops!

I know she'll like this one, it's just talking her into riding it.

We rode EE a bunch of times during the passholder preview. The going backwards in the dark is fairly disorienting. We found that turning our heads and looking back during that part of the ride helped enormously. Its a little tricky to sort of squirm your shoulders around and look back, but we never had that weird feeling after riding when we did.
