My hair is extemely thin, dry, and frizzy. None of the expensive products I've tried make a big difference, and the clip in extensions I've bought have the wrong color/texture, plus my hair is too thin to properly conceal the clips. I'm considering purchasing a wig. Not sure if I'd wear it every day or not. I'm just sick of seeing, for example, our WDW pics where I'm embarrased about how I look. I'm not vain at all, but my hair is so thin my scalp shows through. I tried on a synthetic revlon wig for 300 at a store which looked ok (but it made me look totally "different") Found the same wig online for 144. Was thinking of buying a real hair one on ebay for about 100...but 100 is a lot to waste if it looks bad. Anybody ever wear one that can give advice?

I don't but my mother does for medical reason. She orders hers from Paula Young they are very nice and you really can't tell the difference.

I have a friend who wears them and I think they look horrible. Her hair is very fine, but it still looks better with her natural hair.

I wore them when I had chemo. I had one that looked gorgeous and one that didn't look much at all like it did online, and I didn't wear that one so much. They were both synthetic. I wouldn't get a human hair wig. The synthetics are very natural looking and a breeze to take care of. I got more compliments from complete strangers, who wanted to know who cut my hair! The human hair ones are a pain to care for. The hairdresser I bought the synthetic wig from talked me down from the much more expensive human hair one I was considering and she was right.

They are very hot in the summer and in general are itchy and uncomfortable. I couldnt' bring myself to go to work bald or with a scarf or hat, so I was happy to have the nice looking wig. But I couldn't wait to get in the door to get the wig off. I named it Fluffy, because I always felt that I was walking around with a cat on my head when wearing a wig.

My grandma had one when she had chemo and as a kid I didn't know it wasn't her real hair. Can you get a weave to make your hair thicker?

back in the 70's when I was a young teen wigs were all the rage (think Diana ross and the supremes). Now weaves are much more popular because they look a lot more natural, so that is really big. I've done weaves and pieces may times.

Real hair wigs require too much upkeep. Synthetic wigs are just fine.
Sometimes wigs that are purchased "off the rack" may appear to have too much hair or fullness for your body size/type. Once you find a wig that you like in a style you prefer and in the color you want, you can take it to a reputable hair stylist and they can thin it a bit to conform to your face/body size.

What is important is that you feel good about you. If you think that buying a wig will help your self image, then do so. Don't look back.

The fun part about wearing a wig is that you can change your look like any other accessory you may wear. One day you can have short hair, the next longer.... one day a brunette, another day a red hed. You can have fun!

Do what makes you happy.

I am 36 years old and have been wearing wigs for about 2 years now. I have hardly no hair on top. I have tried Hair Club and it was not worth the money you have to pay monthly, so I started wearing wigs. No one knows I am wearing one unless I tell them. I get compliments everytime I go out on how pretty my hair is. I have a couple wig shops close to me. I recommend that you go to a wig shop and try them on until you find something you are happy with. I would not order from a catalogue or on line until I found a brand and style that looks and feels good on you. I usually pay about 30 to 40 dollars a wig and they usually last me about 4 to 6 months. They can be a little hot sometimes but for the most part I enjoy mine. I get up and if I need to get ready to go somewhere I throw on the wig and it is so much faster than styling your own hair.
