I inherited a Movado watch that I will never wear. It's 14K Gold. Very nice, but not my style at all. I thought some $$$$ would be better than watching it gather dust.

Has anyone here ever tried to sell an expensive watch? How did you do it? Any kind of input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Haven't tried to sell it yet but we inherited an antique diamond watch that was appraised for $6500. We were told by a friend who is an antique dealer that you can expect to get about 1/2 the value of those kinds of things if you sell to dealer. If you sell directly to a collector you might get a little more but those people are hard to find if you're not in the business. We thought about trying a consignment jewelry store or an auction house but just haven't gotten around to it. We also have a huge, gaudy ring that was appraised at $15,000. We co-own the items with my husband's brother so we would split proceeds with him. They've been sitting in a safe deposit box for almost 14 years. Maybe someday we'll decide to do something with them!

As the PP mentioned you will only get about half of the appraised value.

You could try Ebay....I have never sold anything that way but have bought things. I believe that you can set a minimum so that you would not end up 'giving' it away.
