Ever send yourself a package?

I read somewhere that sometimes people send themselves a package of non-parishable food itemsfrom home to their hotel so that when they arrive it is there waiting for them. Some of the things that I can remember were...

instant soup (to make with coffee maker)
peanut butter
jelly
cereal
pringles
other snacks

The list could go on and on...
Has anyone ever done this? How did you go about sending it to your hotel/room? What did you put in the box? How much did it cost to send it?

Sorry about all the questions but this sounds like a great idea and a great way to save money. Thanks.

we did this 3 yrs ago for our thanksgiving trip as I was traveling with my 3 younger kids, & DH & the 3 older kids followed 3 days later. I figured the less I had to carry the better.

My DH shipped the box from his office, don't know how much it cost. It should get there only a few days before you check in. Put on the box to "hold for "guest X" check in date Nov 20"

It was great! The box was there at our check in, they brought it up to the room for us. I have to say that I packed TOO much.

I sent: plastic spoons plastic bowls cereal saltines peanut butter granola bars juice boxes jar of peanuts & other snack stuff

That's all I can remember...just be careful not to send stuff that will break...the pretzles were smashed!!

We also shipped ourselves some snacks last Dec. trip. (Thanks to all the tips here at DIS-sending the box saved us $$$!)

I just packed some snacks and cereals and shipped it via UPS (UPS Cost/Time estimate can calculate how long it'll take to arrive at the resort).

We shipped it to the WL with our names (Your name - Guests of WL) and our arrival and check out dates on the box. When we got to our room, I called front desk and it was there already.

It really helped us, if you plan on staying at WDW for a few days or have a large family, it really helps you save $ on snacks. (We over packed it though, we ended up giving away alot of the snacks we had left!)

Yes...we sent outselves a package last April. It worked out great. I sent cereal, snacks, diapers, and some other stuff. I put our reservation # on the package. I asked for it at the desk at check in and they brought it right out. I will be doing this again for our next trip in May 05.

Instead of sending snacks ahead of time we take an extra suitcase full of snack with us. Since most airlines allow two bags per person, our family only packs one per person for clothes so we can take the extra bag of food with us. The benefit for us doing it this way is that at the end of the trip most of the food is gone and we have an extra bag to bring home all of our souvieners.

I sent myself a package on our Jan trip and will do so again in Oct. I sent diapers, wipes, extra clothes, coloring books for plane ride home, disposable sippy cups.....

I plan on using a limo and grocery stop in Oct but will still mail a package in case the plane is late and they have to cancel grocery stop I can't live without diapers. I paid about $15 to mail package and hotel mailed a package of dirty laundry home to me for about the same price.

I find this a better option than another suitcase. With 3 small children, stroller, car seat I've got enough to take to airport. I was able to pack just 2 suitcases for a family of 5 for 5 nights.

Yes, I sent one. It was brought to us just as we were checking in at the concierge desk.

I overpacked too, and left most of it when we went home. Since we were staying concierge, we had less need for the snacks I had packed. I need to stop at the grocery next time though, the things we need aren't very packable--a case or two of bottled water would have been nice--we always drink bottled, so it adds up at resort prices.

I agree with the post above--most airlines allow two bags per passenger, and counting the kids, that can add up fast. Pack a suitcase with snacks, it's easier, and you can bring it home full of the dirty laundry or souvenirs.

Do you think I could pack the bottled water (OK, and some liquor, lol) in a suitcase?

We did pack a case of water in the suitcase, I packed the whole unopened case-I too was a little nervous about this but it made the trip just fine.

I do not know about liquor or wine. Does anyone know if airlines have any rules about this? If it's ok with the airlines to have these in your bags, maybe you can wrap your beach towels around the bottles to give them alittle cushion.
