Just wondering if anyone has ever been involved in an accident with a rental car and what your experience and outcome were?

My sister and her DH did the last time they went to Orlando. It was the other guys fault, not sure how it turned out but at least a year later I know it wasn't settled.

My cousin had accidents on two separate occasions in a rental car. I think they were from Avis, but I'm not sure. The first wreck was on wet streets out in the country. My Mom was with her. She went through 2 fences and ended up in a pasture. The front bumper had caught on a fence post and been yanked from the car, so the airbags didn't deploy. The car was totalled, but neither of the ladies was hurt. The rental company sent a tow truck and replaced her car (this time she got a clunker :) ) Anyway, her own auto insurance took care of it, no problem. She was from California, the accident was in Texas. Another similar accident happened to her in a minivan, and was handled in a similar manner. Of course, after the first wreck Mom never rode with her again.

Thanks for the infomation Chuck.

By the way, enjoyed reading your trip reports of your recent trip to WDW this AM. Loved Aunt Flo!!

We rented from National last year and some bored guy hit us in a parking lot. (Ie the cops would not fill out a report) We were told that we had to find and go to a police station, get a generic form and each fill it out. I almost went to jail because I said the word "butt" to the cop. We called National's 800 and they told us more about what to do than the cop did. We found out after the cop left (he did give us the paper instead of us trying to find a cop shop after I sob storied him) that they guy didn't have his insure info on him. (ILLEGAL!!!!) We had to drive to his house. Talk about scared! The only comforting thing was we were going to a friends house that was on the other side of the street, literally. Atleast we knew we could varify who the guy was if anything did happen. While we were waiting, a cop went past. Figures. LOL We didn't have any problems renturning the car and haven't heard anything since. We have rented from National 3 times since then.
