So the other night I woke up and my fingers were swelling, I took off my engagement ring and put it somewhere! I woke up the next morning and couldn't find my ring. I have this tendency to take it off in my sleep, and it usually ends up under the bed (I know, weird right?).. :rolleyes1

So the other morning, I found it under my little dog. Which was kind of funny (not funny if he had messed with it). So anyway, when I got up- I looked at my ring and the bridge (the prong underneath the diamond) was split (i guess my swollen finger did that damage)!!! It was just on a side stone... so not such a big deal...at least I thought. I took the ring back to the jeweler I bought it from and it has to be sent to New York to be fixed!!!! I was so upset because my trip to disney is on saturday, and I really wanted to wear it there. We have been engaged 2 years and are getting married Nov 14, 2009.

They said it could take FIVE weeks for me to get it back!!! My finger feels so naked already... my sweet fiance said he'd buy me an inexpensive ring at the Magic Kingdom or somewhere at Disney to wear while the other is getting fixed. :wizard:

So have any of you ever had to send your ring off- or have it worked on for a long period of time? I am going to a bridal show in 3 weeks, and I hope that my ring is back early so I can show it off at the show.

Thank God you found it!! :woohoo: Having said this, I had to part with mine. Rob (DF) originally got me a three stone setting, and it was getting snagged on everything. So we decided to go with a simple solitaire setting. I had to go without for a few weeks and everytime I felt my naked finger I jumped, thinking I had lost it. I bought a (temporary) replacement from Ebay - I bought a Diamonique ring (QVC) that looked like my ring and wore it until the ring came back.

Now that I have my original ring, I wear the Diamonique one when I go to a concert or sporting event after dark in Boston. They look exactly alike, and it gives me comfort knowing if I lose it in the excitement (I'm a bit insane at a Boston Bruins game) I'm only out twenty bucks. El Cheapo Meg strikes again! :)

I loooooveeee Diamonique rings!!!! I had some earrings and a necklace that were diamonique, and I don't know what happened to them! :(

Thats a good idea though. I will look into that again.

Yeah, my ring unfortunately gets snagged on things too... I hate to EVER say I regret the setting etc, but it does get frustrating at times.

I just got my ring back after 6 weeks without it! I had my band made and it took that long since they had to make a mold of my e-ring and then make sure it fit together perfectly. It is definitely weird. I went to my first dress fitting without it and on a mini vacation with DF and you just feel different. I would say we are getting married and people immediately looked for the ring. Then you have to explain why you aren't wearing one. Meanwhile, people at work were asking each other if we broke off the engagement because they didn't see me with my ring on. I'm just glad it's back! So, yes, I know exactly how you feel. I didn't think it was going to make such a difference since I lived my whole life without it, but once it's there, it's hard to let go of. I wish I would have thought to go out and buy something in between. MegKate, awesome suggestion!

I appreciated it that much more when I did get it back. DF was so cute and got down on one knee again to put it back on. :goodvibes Hope you get it back soon!!!!

About a week after we got engaged, I had to give it back to the jewelry store to get resized (he got a 6.5 and I'm a 4.25 - yikes!) and they shipped it out so I think I was without it for two weeks after that. I was so upset lol! I had just gotten it and wanted to show everyone

I've been without my ring...but never allowed it to be shipped anywhere.

I deal with a local jeweler who does ALL his ring work on the premises. Only once, when it needed to be re-sized, was it out of my possession for any period of time (two days). Other than that, he's done cleaning and repaired a prong while I waited.

do you worry that while you leave it somewhere to be repaired that they will switch your stones?

My DF proposed when we were at WDW about a month ago. It is a Mickey Mouse and sadly they didn't have it in my size, so we bought the biggest size that they had. It of course didn't fit my ring finger, but it did fit my pinky, so we started out our engagement with me wearing it on my pinky.

When we got home (we did a week at WDW and a 7 day cruise on the Magic), we took it in to get sized. I didn't have it for a week and a half! I finally got it back on Thursday...but now I'm afraid it is too big! It keeps sliding on my finger so I think I'm going to have to go back and get it made smaller! That means I'll be without it for longer!

It's strange, it took a few days to get used to wearing it, but now I feel strange without it! It's a wonderful and magical feeling! :)

I know how you feel. I had to part with mine to get it re-sized and it was horrible. My finger felt naked. I got so used to the feeling of it on my finger that I always had a slight heart attack when I looked down--I thought I had lost it. Last month we went to WDW and I left it in the room safe when we went to Typhoon Lagoon and all day I thought I left it somewhere.

it would have to be a really shady place for that to be an issue. I used to work at a jewelry store and girls would think we switched their diamonds if it was out of their sight for 30 secconds - for the record that's not even possible, we'd have had to switch the entire ring! A lot of diamonds these days are laser inscribed with the certification number. If you've got one that isn't and you're concerned about identifying your diamond, you can get it inscribed, but you have to send it off to do that. Really after having worked in 2 different jewelry stores, I'd be amazed to hear about a diamond being switched at a reputable store.

Oh, you can also learn to identify the "characteristics" of your diamond (the flaws). All but a miniscule few diamonds have some sort of identifiable "characteristics" in them that you can see with the store microscope - take yours in and ask to look at it under the scope. Diamond certifications should have a sketch of your diamond and you can match that up to what you see.

I bent the band on my ring moving furniture one day :headache: and so I had to take it in to get fixed. Well while I was there they said they wouldn't do it because the band was so thin that if they tried it would break PLUS the prongs are so thin they couldn't fix that either! ( It was always catching on clothes and such). So I had to get a whole new band and head and I was without it for 10 days! It was so wierd not having it there!

yes..my ring has a warranty from the designer and when the prong got bent, I had to ship it back and wait a week
I got a 6mm gold band to wear and it keeps my finger from being sad! haha

Yes... I am extremely freaked out about that. The ring is from Jared's and the reason why they couldnt fix it there is because it was platinum, and if they tried to weld it back together, they could have frost (?) the diamond... basically discolored it. There is a place they send their jewerly off to in NY that has this special machine that basically pings a ball piece of platinum (or whatever metal i suppose) back onto the ring. It literally takes a second. The machine is so new age, that I guess they dont have one around here. I'm sure it would cost a lot for stores to have one of those.

But my diamond is laser inscribed with a code. I am only worried about my center diamond because it is a heart diamond (extra special to me and one of a kind.. its a perfect heart shape). The side stones I am not as concerned with.. unless they came back fake... woooo that would be bad.:sad2:

I know how you feel! We are getting married on Saturday and I have mine at the jewlery store, I work in pastries all day and it is full of cake and flour. :) but lucky I only have to wait till thursday!
