Ever Had These?

Yes to all. I agree that the waterproof lotion came out in the late 70s. Prior to that, baby oil or Copper Tone for us.
Remember my phone # GI4-5597. GI was for Gilbert.

our table was in yellow

Absolutely had the chairs & the loungers.
I have no idea why, but every year when they were pulled out
for the first time you had to watch out for what we called
"Pincher Bugs."
They eventually disappeared the longer the loungers were left out.

Table, no, we didn't have a kitchen set.
We always ate in the dining room BK/Lunch/Dinner.
DM still has the same table, it was brought east by covered wagon
100+ years ago.

Phone: I use my grandparents black rotary to this day (along w/our cordless phones).
We all had the alphabet prefixes & I remember them.
DM still has the same number we had when they bought the house in 1958,
which was also pre-ZIP code! (I remember having to relearn my address in the 70's).

Chopper: we didn't have one but I inherited all of DH's mother's items,
and there was an orange one among them.

Thanks for the memories!

Never saw sunscreen as a kid. I didn't know anyone that ever had it.
I don’t know if it was “sunscreen,” but there were “suntan lotions” when I was a kid in the 1960s.

This ad wouldn’t fly today.

My father was opposed to such lotions back then. He said they’d turn me into a sissy. He’d rather get red like a cooked lobster than use sun protection.

i remember a friend in high school (70's) needing to look tanned for a play she was in. she got a couple of bottles of coppertones's 'sudden tan' (tag line was 'tans on touch') and had a couple of us help her apply it. our hands turned a deep shade of orange that lasted for weeks :crazy2: she on the otherhand looked great-on stage/from a distance. up close not so much:rotfl:(thankfully we did'nt apply any to her neck or face and she could keep the rest of her body covered up till it faded-or continued to wipe off and stain her bedsheets, her mom was NOT happy:headache:)

My parents had a set of those webbed lawn/beach chairs for close to 50 years. Plus the tri-fold lounge chaise.

I still remember my childhood alpha-numeric phone number. WO 4-6764, but have forgotten a few numbers I’ve had since.

absolutly! very popular to set up in the back yard where you would lounge slathered in j&j baby oil b/c 'it's healthy to have a nice deep tan' o_O

Back yard? Heck, we had a porch on our 3rd floor, we would go lay up there. Closer to the sun, thought we got a better tan. :lmao:

Sometimes fraternity guys at my college would actually go up on the roof of their frat houses to get a tan one millisecond faster than on the ground.

remember the tanning reflectors? the looked like the cone that vets put on dogs but were metalic so you could optimize the exposure your face got

I went out of my way to find a vintage table just like the one in the second picture for my diner room. If only I could have gotten into a time machine and bring back the one the family used to have several decades ago. I was going to buy new, but the companies that make these today are really pricey. I think I found this one on ebay for a few hundred. It was shipped to me in pieces, but it was all numbered and went together like a big puzzle.

Must’ve missed this thread. My family had all the items in OP. Our kitchen table had leaves in it to fit our family of 8, and matched the countertops, which were Formica with metal edges. I still have one of the webbed lawn chairs, but from the 80’s I think. One of my uncles had Jarts that we played every summer at his house. You had to throw them up high to get them to stick in the ground.

I still remember not only my phone number with the word for the “exchange”, but also my grandparents’ and a couple of my friends’ numbers too. Like everyone else, we had a wall mounted rotary phone in the kitchen, and used to stretch the long curly cord down the hall into the bathroom to get privacy.
