Ever go to a movie by yourself?

No, can't do it.

If I went to a movie alone I would feel like a complete loser. Maybe it dates back to high school when I was at a movie with a bunch of friends and some person walked in alone and sat in front of us. Some of the guys in our group were saying things in his direction like, "So are you out tonight with all of your friends?" and whatnot. Even now, when I see people at movies alone, I tend to feel sorry for them, like, "Couldn't find anyone to go with you, huh?"

Now I know from reading these threads that is not the case, many people like to go alone. I just don't get it, but I can see the other side. Still would never do it though. Call me insecure. .

Your friends are really cruel. I go to the movies by myself whenever I feel like. So do many people I know. I work different hours than a lot of my friends. My boyfriend hates chick flix, so if my gal pals have already seen the movie or if none are around, I have no problems going by myself. Am I supposed to wait for the movie to come out on DVD if I have no one to go with? Just so I can look cool for your insecure friends? Thankfully, I have never run into people like that around here.

I myself MUCH preferred the opening scene of "Saving Private Ryan" for THAT sort of thing.
Or during the second half of Hostel.

Slightly off the subject, Lora...

Yup! I know. And they aren't touring again until then either. :( Although they may do a festival show here or there in the summer. :cool1:

Yup -
couln't find anyone to sit through Titanic with me

DH was DB at the time and his friend wanted to go with me but DB was not all for that - which is just as well since I cried a few times - lol

I had been dating a guy for three years when we split up and a friend/co-worker gave me the best advice ever when we broke up--learn to enjoy my own company. I learned to go to movies by myself (very hard the first time) and go out to eat by myself (although, I DO sit at the bar). I lived completely by myself (no roommates) for the first time. If I hadn't done all that, I don't think I would have ever been ready to get married. That is when I learned who I was. It also gave me a sense of self confidence I never would have had; a real boost to my self esteem.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to a movie by yourself. I have done it before, and I will do it again.

I never have, but I would in a heartbeat. Before I met DH, I just didn't do movies unless it was a date. After DH, we started going, and we have very similar taste in movies, so we normally agree on what we want to see. On the other hand, if it's something the other doesn't really want to see, we go together anyway. Mostly because the movie theaters are in another town and it's a nice outing for us.

I don't mind eating out alone either.

Sure. Understand. Nothing quite like blowing chunks into the English Channel to get you in the mood for some romance :teeth:

i like to go to movies alone. I have three teens who are always broke. If I asked they'd all go. Then the trip to the movies would cost me $50. If I waited til I wanted to spend that much I'd almost never go. Then i'd be buying a bunch of snacks, nobody would agree on what to see.
Sometimes I just sneak out and go to the movies all by my self and love it.

My wife & I usually have similar tastes. Although I still haven't forgiven her for dragging me to "Steel Magnolias" or "Stepmom" (just DIE already, please! - in both cases). Maybe it's a Julia Roberts thing for me... Anyway, KAMommy just quite literally can't stomach the war movies I like.

Um, just to clarify here, I said this happened in high school. You're using the present tense and that makes it sounds like this is how my friends are today! This was 20-years-ago...don't be so defensive. And yes, I know they were cruel. That is why it has stayed with me for so many years, I felt really bad.

Nobody is telling you to stay home because of what a bunch of 14-year-olds in the back row might think. I was just telling my experience.

I love the movies by myself. Sit where I want, noone asking "what did he say" eat what I want :cheer2:

I took myself to see "Brokeback Mountain" last week because no one would go with me. DH refused and my girlfriends were either busy or not interested.

But then I have also gone to WDW solo and loved it too! What fun to go exactly in a park where you wanted to go, walk as fast or as slowly as you wanted and to eat where you wanted! Only the evenings were a bit too quiet so I read and watched TV!

Yes. I can't stand when girlfriends want to spend a "mom's night out" at the movies. If we go to all the trouble coordinating our schedules so we can get a night out, I want to be able to talk to them!

DH and I used to go to the movies seperately to avoid a babysitter. Again, if we're going to pay for a sitter I'd like to at least be able to talk. Now that the kids are older we can go together, but we still go seperately to movies we wouldn't both enjoy.

I think I'm the only one in my family who fantasizes about a solo trip to the World. I think I would enjoy it for the very same reasons you mentioned.

I have several times. It's always sort of a treat to myself - I pick something that my DH doesn't want to see, I get popcorn and a coke when normally I wouldn't. It's very enjoyable!

I don't understand those who feel sorry for people out alone. :confused3 My life is so full - I have tons of friends and family - so being by myself "for a change" is actually quite refreshing!

I also like to eat out alone sometimes - especially if I have a good book. Maybe not dinner, but definitely lunch. It's so nice to relax and be anonymous and focus only on yourself every once in a while. :goodvibes

i like going alone to the movies......this way no one knows i am breaking my diet when i hit the concession stand........

and, i get to choose the movie i want to see.

Yup, and I loved every minute of it. I missed seeing the latest Harry Potter flick with the family, so I went by myself one day. There is a theater here called Alamo Drafthouse, and they serve food and drinks (including beer and wine) while the movie is playing. So I had a little lunch while I watched the show. I told my girlfriends about it and we all agreed that it was one of the best treats we could ever ask for! It's something I will definitely do again.
