Ever get a discount purchasing large quantities of air tix?

OK, maybe not large but medium...we've got 9 people going from IAD in October. Is it possible to get a discount by purchasing all at the same time? We're looking at either United (Ted) or AirTran.

I would highly doubt you will get any kind of discount. In fact, if you purchase all together, you may get a HIGHER price since that many tickets may not be available at the lowest fare. Price them out for a small number and also the whole number to see what prices you get.

Also, keep in mind that groups booked together (7 or more) are not usually able to check in online, at least with the airlines I have flown in the past few years. It would be best to break an itinerary into two parts to make sure you can use online check in.

Our baseball team went to Florida and was stuck paying $330+/ticket when everyone else was getting tickets for $220 or less......

I think it varies by airline. I am flying from Kansas City to Orlando in November, on Midwest Express, 9 of us, and they have a special group rate if:

1. All 9 have to fly same itinerary
2. All have to be booked on 1 credit card
3. Have to call their reservation phone number for group bookings.

I went from spending $214 down to $171 per ticket going thru this way. Your best bet is to check with the individual airline and explain your situation to see if they have anything similiar.

We booked a group rate through Air Trans Airways. It was conderibly lower than the internet special. We are a party of 11 and all are flying on the same dates and same times. We have booked group travel the last 2 times we have flown and have ALWAYS gotten a cheaper rate than you can get by booking separate tickets. We had to put $50.00 down for each person traveling and the rest is due 30 days form departure date. It makes it a little easier to buy airfare that way. Not that big chunk of money at once.

MOST airlines require at least 10 passengers to qualify for a group fare. If the number drops below that you will be charged the going rate.
