Ever Found Anything Interesting Hidden In Your House?

I love that show "If These Walls Could Talk" where they find neat old stuff hidden in the walls of old houses.

We built our house so there's nothing interesting hidden here.....

I haven't found anything in my house but my Sister found a blow up doll in the drop ceiling of her house after they moved in. Seems the previous owners had a teenage son in that room:rotfl2:

I think the woman who lived in our flat before us left in quite a hurry. We found a pile of Russian magazines, two massive jars of pickled mushrooms, a LOT of canned fish and a miniature cauldron!

A bit OT, but I work in a theatre and several years ago one of my coworkers was clearing out some old papers and found designs for a renovation of the theatre which her grandfather had made. She didn't even know that he'd worked on the theatre. I thought that was pretty cool!

We found boxes and boxes of really ugly Christmas ornaments in our attic. We also found an old cash register. DH broke it to get it open, and we found $15.00. My former neighbors inherited a broken down home and huge lot. They bulldozed the house before rebuilding. Before bulldozing an elderly neighbor cautioned them that the folks who lived in the house had hidden money all over. The neighbors searched and found several metal boxes filled with savings bonds. I'm not sure of the totals, but of course the neighborhood kids said they found thousands.

When we lived in Va we bought an old fixer-upper. Dh was breaking up a set of stairs outside the house that we didn't need and he found about 20 different bottles of booze, empty of course. So at least we know what they were drinking while they built our house, haha..:lmao: When my folks bought their home about 32 yrs ago, the previous owners left all kinds of old furniture, a couple of bedroom sets, a dining room buffet all really nice stuff that is still being used by the family.

During my sister's senior year of college she and a friend decided to rent a house from a cousin of my sister's friend. They had been living in a noisy apartment complex and the friend and the cousin had been offered a job transfer out of state but he didn't want to sell his home. The cousin offered the house to rent to relatives and my sis's friend took the offer right away. After a couple of moving in my sister found a stash of a marijuana in a storage cabinent in the basement. The friend was really shocked by it and didn't think her cousin ever did drugs. They flushed it and never talked about it again.

I just moved into this 100-year old house 3 weeks ago, and this thread prompted me to go up into the attic with my DD12 - LOL!!!

We were so excited, and then even more disappointed. Nothing but a bunch of empty boxes.

Not my house, but my 85 yo Dad just went into a nursing home. I found 2 loaded revolvers in his house after my Step Mom asked me to look. One in his desk in the family room and another in a secret compartment (took some time to find that one) next to his bed.

We found a grapefruit spoon in a drawer. Nothing exciting.

I love reading all these stories. Makes me want to explore an old house!

well, my house is about 230 yrs old. I have not been into the attic other than right next to the entrance ever and we have lived here about 9 yrs now. We also have not been into any of the crawl spaces in the house and there are quite a few. As we start remodeling the upstairs room (tearing down walls and ceilings into the attic) I guess we may find a few things.

Wow. You couldn't keep me out of that attic!

aside from a whole whack of needed repairs, nothing here! lol

however, dear friends of mine who live in ontario and rented a house for a few years had a few interesting stories that creeped me out as a 12/13 yr old. the house was quite old and lived in by 3 old ladies. they all said they wanted to be burried in the house when they died. :scared1: in two of the rooms on the main level, there were rectangles cut out of the floor a little bit wider than the size of a coffin. eep! the basement appt had a lower ceiling too...strange! the basement apartment was always overrun with house flies too...coincidence? now i didnt see the attic by my friends said to me it was in the shape of an upside down cross which is a sign of the devil? who knows maybe they were playing tricks on me! lol one more thing, there was a set of stairs from the kitchen to the basement appt. doors on each end. they were nailed shut from the inside one both levels....creepy...that house scared the snot outta me! i was so happy to come home after that summer! lol
