Ever encounter bed bugs at resort?

We just returned from a 10 day stay at BWV. Midway thru the stay I saw a man entering the room across the hall from ours. I saw that he had a dog carrier with a beagle and initially thought about what a cute dog it was. After I went outside, I realized the man was wearing a uniform and was some type of maintenance man and that he had knocked on the door and announced his arrival as maintenance. I know that beagles are often used to detect bed bugs, I don’t know what else. I never saw guests entering or leaving the room until the last day when we were leaving our room. I decided not to get involved without knowing any other information. I hope that dog was there for some other purpose.

I am a human bed bug detector. If any of them bite me I develop huge red welts. I can thankfully say there have not been any bed bugs in any of my rooms at Disney, but they certainly are around with the number of people that travel and bring them in.

Never seen them. Not worried about them. If I did see them, I would make sure they are eradicated, but Bed Bugs don't carry a lot of disease, unlike some other parasites.

It does happen. I recall some older posts about specific instances that were reported here and describing Disney’s response. If you do a quick search I’m sure you could locate them. Unfortunately it does happen at all hotels / resorts.

I believe they dog check the resorts on a regular basis to stay ahead of potential issues. I have spent hundreds of nights at WDW and never seen a one.

My oldest brought them home for a summer ballet intensive once so we learned a lot about them. To check your hotel room, lift the mattress. If there are bugs in the room, they are likely to be hanging out between the mattress and box spring/bed. They look like apple seeds. Do this right after you check in and before you unpack anything. They are very hard to eradicate if you bring them home and it only takes one little guy to crawl in your suitcase to hitchhike home.

Thanks for the info. The dog was cute, I wouldn’t mind if BWV had a residential expert full time, like Shadow.

Take a small pig, and thether it in the corner of the room, you will never be bitten.
