Ever done one of the magic shows?

I think the only aspect that suffers a bit in some the main Disney shows is the story lines. But the simple stories are forgivable (and possibly necessary) since it is a short show

It's not forgivable to me. Story is everything. The convoluted and ridiculous storyline of golden mickeys nearly sent me screaming out of the theater. I dint care if the singing is good, if it makes absolutely no sense.

Even my son wouldn't "let" me see believe after my reaction to GM.

I don't watch the shows on Royal either. You would not believe how free and easy it is when you don't have these schedules hanging over you! :)

But I'm not a musical theater person. Theater yes. Musical no.

And I had no clue I was a magic show person until I was bored enough to go one night on Dream. I still kind of hate magic because I'm a "how does it work" person and magicians don't tell, but oh well.

The kid-focused show was fun, and ds got to help with a trip involving string. He got to keep the string and the next day showed the trick to the cms at the port adventures desk (maybe that's why I liked this guy, because he did tell how that one was done!). They thought it was so fun that they gave us the snorkel package port adventure for free. Paid off!

We have seen many and really aren't fans. Mike Super was pretty good, and he happens to be a really nice guy. We have seen some though that the tricks are so obvious it is painful to watch, both on DCL and anywhere else. One on DCL was doing a coin trick, and the close up camera made it obvious he was pushing the coins in and out of the lining of the table the trick was being done on, that we got up and left.

As other has mentioned the magic shows are not as elaborate as the caliber as the Disney Shows. Obviously some are better than others but they are all worth seeing. My favorite are Kyle and Mistie Knight.

I have really enjoyed some of the magic shows but they were those that relied on the magic as a vehicle for comedy. None were Vegas level, but Vegas level Magic isn't usually suited for audiences composed of families with children.

Have you seen those presented on the DCL ships?

They are a step down wherever they are. I have never found them funny or entertaining. And ventriloquists are just creepy.

There is a reason magicians and that ilk never do more than a night maybe in a Broadway house. They are NOT Broadway-caliber fare.

Curious how many people who say "not Broadway-caliber" have actually seen a show ON BROADWAY. Trust me - they are higher production quality than some that have won Tonys.

I've seen The Phantom of the opera, Jersey Boys (X2), Hairspray, Wicked, The Lion King (X2), Chicago, Cats, Newsies, Rock of Ages (and I'm going to see The Book of Mormons in April)... Some of them in NYC, sometimes in my hometown (but they were Broadway in tour). My criteria for a production is mostly the talent of the actors (voice and/or dancing).

While I do think that the productions I have seen on the Disney Dream have great decors/settings my reviews for the actors would be mixed. Some are amazing, some others not so much. That, for me, makes them not Broadway-caliber.

Well, I can tell you that DCL has one of the highest percentages of their entertainment staff get roles on Broadway going. That says a lot for a line with all of four ships.

I agree that the Golden Mickey has a weak storyline. I liked it but I see it as a "musical revue".
