Ever broken a bone and NOT known it?

When I was 23 and having surgery for a deviated septum, I was told that my nose had been broken.

I asked my parents if they had abused me.;)

You would have to know how sweet and non-violent my parents were to appreciate the irony of that. I knew they had not beaten me.

My poor mother was frantic though trying to remember if I'd ever hurt myself and had she ignored it. We never could figure out when it was broken. It doesn't look broken.
arminnie, the exact same thing happened to me! (well, I haven't had the surgery yet, maybe you could tell me about that) I was at the doc talking about the possible surgery, and he asked me how long ago the car accident was when I broke my nose. Huh? I've never broken my nose, I said. He said, "Ooooooh, you've broken your nose for sure". For the record, it looks fine on the outside, LOL.

All I can think is I may have been in a car accident with my mom when I was a baby before car seats, and noone knew it was broken. Either that, or my crazy older brothers broke it, LOL. Either way, I have no memory of any injuries to my nose.

I recently needed an X-Ray of my toe and after reading the X-Ray, the doctor asked me how I had broken the bone in my instep. What?! He said it was definitely an old fracture and was usually caused from dropping something on your foot. I STILL have no clue. :confused3

Ten years ago, I went to a chiropractor for back pain and after she took moving X-rays to see what was up with my back, she said, "Hey, did you know you broke your tailbone about 5 years ago?" I thought back.. and sure enough, I'd fallen very hard at school (as a result tore ligaments in both ankles.. didn't know there was a problem with the tailbone). I remember that it hurt to sit for about a year. To this day, 15 years after the fall, my tailbone/lower back still aches like crazy if I sit for too long.

I fell on rollerskates and was in a lot of pain. My mom gave me a heating pad and let me sleep with her, she thought I was more upset because my friends made fun of me. Well she took me to the hospital the next day to find out I had shattered my tailbone and dislocated bones in my back. I had to kneel on the floor of the car I couldn't sit. I still can't sit well or still. I was six.

When I broke my arm, they took six hours to set it, and after the six weeks finally it "healed," I went to physical therapy for a couple of weeks then had an x ray. They told me my arm was still completely broken, as it was the first time. Then I had to start drinking milk by the gallon, take calcium pills and they still thought I might need electrodes to make the bone grow. Thank goodness it finally healed. It was five months. I was 8. And now I'm six feet tall, thanks calcium!

The one time I didn't break something and they thought I had involved my back as well. I fell down the stairs and because of injury #1 my mom took me to get xrays. Well on the xrays it looked like I broke three vertebrae. It seems that breaking one of those three would have made me paralyzed, but I could still walk, wiggle my toes the whole nine yards. So they put me flat on a board and made me stay that way for 24 hours. (and served my fried chicken for lunch--it's really hard to eat flat on your back) The next morning the doctor asked me to stand up, bend over and touch my toes, then I could go home. I had only bruised the vertebrae and the swelling had made it look like they were broken. My back is still pretty screwed up though.

I broke two ribs when I was sick once - the air at work was extremely dry and I coughed so much that I cracked one rib on each side. I thought I just strained my upper stomach muscles from reaching too high for something on a high shelf.

Yep. My senior year I fell walking up a flight of stairs. (yes I am that much of a clutz!) I went to the ER and they sent me away with an ace bandage and some crutches. Two weeks later I still couldn't put any weight on it. Another trip to the Dr, more x-rays and they finally realized I had a hairline fracture. The ligaments had all healed in that raised up position, so they had to rebreak it and put on a cast. That ankle has never been the same.

I went to doctor in my teens because of sinuses. He took one look at my nose and said did you know it has been broken before? I said no since it looks fine and I don't remember anything happening. He said it looked like it had been broken once, and probably twice. My mother freaked out about that one. We left with her feeling like a horrible mother for not knowing.

When I was 23 and having surgery for a deviated septum, I was told that my nose had been broken.

Same thing happened to me! The only thing I can remember that could have broken it is catching a softball with my face when I was about 12. Never swelled or bruised--just a bloody nose.

I think my foot might actually be broken right now, but I can't in a millon years figure out what I could've done that is causing it to hurt so badly.:confused3

I think my foot may have been broken about 5 years back. I got in a-- disagreement -- with my brother and he took his bony heel and STOMPED right down in the middle of my foot around my third toe. I felt SO sick after it happened and it hurt really bad and turned a nice shade of navy, but we never got it checked out. Even though it rarely hurts, my toes still don't work quite right.
